KAPOW! The new Batman movie "The Dark Knight" smashed the weekend record set by "Spider-Man 3" last year, selling an estimated $155.3 million worth of tickets during its first three days of release across the United States and Canada, distributor Warner Bros. Pictures said on Sunday.
The hotly anticipated film, co-starring late actor Heath Ledger as the anarchic Joker, surpassed the $151.1 million haul for "Spider-Man 3" during its first weekend in May 2007.

Hmm, to me, a nihilistic viewpoint is one that says there is no good or evil, so just do what you want. That's the Joker. However, this is different than "humans arent good and humans are inherently evil," because that accepts the distinction between good and evil. Also, there was once this philosopher that basically said humans inherently have some evil in them -- are all sinners -- and can only be saved by grace. He certainly wasn't an nihilist.
Wanted to offer more to prove that at least some people in the movie really aren't nihilistic, quite the opposite in fact, but can't say more without dropping a spoiler...
“I dont remember Batman torturing anybody”
Gotta remember the modern libdolt definition of “torture,” i.e., anything less than crying on the shoulder of a mass murderer and holding his hand is torture...
Whatever floats your boat, Comics Boy.
Are you being deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan? Either way, thank you for your service, stay safe, and God Bless.
Glad I don't care what idiots on the Internet think about me.
I'm pretty sure I'm done, too, as there are very few movies that come out that I can't wait 3 to 6 months to see.
It's just a name (he doesn't really have a knighthood)
Really, a movie featuring the music of ABBA was thought to suck in comparison, who could have seen that coming?
Glad to hear it. Batman is the greatest and most complex comic book character in history.
(I am one of the those comic book geeks)
When compared to all the others, he is always on top. Most comic geeks would agree, he could take ANY hero or villain with their “super powers” even though Batman, himself, has none. The only true power he has is his mind.
I could talk about Batman for hours.
But he is dark, and he does act as a protective knight.
One of the things that 'floats the boat' of 'comic boy' is defending your right to call him comic boy on an internet forum. The least you can do is show some respect, at the very least for his service if not for him as a person.
Jude, you get both types of respect from me. I'll pray for you.
As for the movie, I have read a good number of Batman comics, and the way they depict the Batman is the correct manner (based on the writing of the character over the years). Batman is supposed to be a dark character, technically insane if you look at it from a certain angle, and the Joker was never a ha-ha character (he's been a murdering psycopath in all his iterations).
It's glad to see a movie that actually looks at the source material before churning out celluloid. If one wants to feel good they should go watch Superman ....if one wants to see a flawed human, who has no reason to be good but still decides to do good, then they should go watch Batman.
You assume some things - that s/he is really going to Iraq. That s/he is going as a soldier and not as an independent contractor.
You also overlook the fact that s/he was incessantly rude throughout the exchange. Disrespect begets disrespect.
End of discussion.
“Heath Ledger finally played the Joker as portrayed in the comics - a psychopathic murderer. Just a really, really bad guy.”
Been hearing that Ledgers perfermance stole the show.
Our age of innocence ended on 9/11/01. When we couldn't accept the deaths of several DELTAs and Rangers back in '93 during Black Hawk Down, but with the war of terror, the American mindset have changed considerably and thus we are more willing to accept pain and loss in order to confront evil.
