KAPOW! The new Batman movie "The Dark Knight" smashed the weekend record set by "Spider-Man 3" last year, selling an estimated $155.3 million worth of tickets during its first three days of release across the United States and Canada, distributor Warner Bros. Pictures said on Sunday.
The hotly anticipated film, co-starring late actor Heath Ledger as the anarchic Joker, surpassed the $151.1 million haul for "Spider-Man 3" during its first weekend in May 2007.

Well, as to content, I stopped watching the “Law and Order” series when Dick West started to include material that was critical of the Bush Administration.
I did not see, and recommended to my friends and family not to see, “Million Dollar Baby” as it was a film that existed solely to justify euthanasia.
The good thing about the U. S. is that you can still (until at least January 20, 2009) see what you want to see and avoid that which you do not want to see. (Or listen to what you want to listen to on AM radio;)
Regarding #61, I should have said Dick Wolf (sorry, distracted) and I should have made clear that Wolf was using the series (plural) to criticize the President.
MDB didn’t justify euthanasia anymore than Lolita justified pedophilia.
"Wanna see my pencil trick?"
If you didn’t see it you have no opinion.
That was one of my favorite parts too. Almost so quick you miss it.
Frankly the “babe” wasn’t babelike enough for me tho.
They probably do. Certainly amongst young 20-somethings, I know a lot who are struggling.
A large percentage of the group that's hurting financially are always in that group, many because of decisions they've made throughout life.... But I am not bitter at the credit card companies, they upheld their end of the bargain, it was my end and the income that has faltered.
You're the exception. I know a lot who are indeed hurting due to poor decisions (like not finishing college, not having a marketable skill, etc.). They resent other people's success.
We might well be on the cusp of recession or worse, but the amount of money Americans spend on movies and cell phones certainly don't show it.
There's a bi-modal distribution. Some can afford movies and expensive cell phones. A lot more can't - and so, using the example of the iPhone as evidence that the economy is ok is kinda disingenuous.
Good movie, though. Wouldn't mind seeing it again.
I don’t see films like this for the same reason I don’t hang around strip clubs or crack dens or attend radical Islamic rallies. I have a pretty good idea of what goes on in those places and I don’t care to get any of it on me.
No - you only think you know what the movie was about. But frankly, unless you've seen the film, your opinion is rooted in prejudice and ignorance - and therefore absolutely worthless.
I saw it this weekend. I thought it was very thought-provoking about the terrible evil even the best of us can commit, and yet the incredible potential for good from even the worst. That's a powerful message - and NOT a "nihilist" one. Good and evil were unambiguous.
Strip clubs, crack dens and radical Islamic rallies are unambiguous in what they represent. MDB was. Art doesn’t always break down easily into this pro-this or anti-that.
MDB was ambiguous I meant.
Do you have an opinion about the war in Iraq? The war in Afghanistan? Have you been to either Iraq or Afghanistan and spent time on the front lines? If you haven’t, then I sincerely hope you don’t hold an opinion on either as it would be rooted in prejudice and ignorance and therefore utterly worthless.
Go see it. I am sure you will be surprised. Basically a good guy is corrupted. That’s what I think they mean. Batman is incorruptible but takes the fall for the good guy because that’s what the people need.
You will be surprised. The two never mix. There is no shade of gray. I think you may have taken it the wrong way.
ohhh All good perfromances. I really liked Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock! Along those lines, not necessarily superhero, but dont forget Hugo Weaving’s “Agent Smith”, Arnold’s “Terminator”, Laurence Oliver’s “Dr Szell”.
Whats weird is I REALLY like Darth Vader but I almost wouldn’t put him in the list. Maybe because in the end he comes around and we see him for who he is but I enjoyed the performance.
While I root for the superhero in movies the sinister side in me really likes a good villian. I really like Batman Begins and can’t wait to see this one.
Actually, I'm on my way there. It'd probably be best to stay silent lest we find out just how big a fool you are.
I quit going when I took a date and my kids to an evening show and ended up spending $65 for tickets, popcorn, Jr. Mints and cokes.
