Fake Robert De Niro caught
Orange.UK ^ | July 18, 2008 | staff reporter

A fake Robert de Niro was caught when he tried to use forged ID papers for the star during a routine police roadside vehicle check.

Police in Iasi, Eastern Romania, said: "He was even dressed up like the Hollywood star with a designer suit and sunglasses - but he didn't fool officers.

"We knew that Robert de Niro would not be driving alone around a remote part of the country. We guessed he was an imposter."

A search of the man's home later exposed him as part of a forgery gang that had been helping provide fake Romanian ID's to people from Moldova wanting to get work in western Europe.

Did he say, “You talking to me? Are you talking to me? Well, there’s nobody else here.” after he was caught?

Anyone else remember the old Comedy Central show Viva Variety with Michael Ian Black? They did a rather funny skit about a guy who is always mistaken for Robert DeNiro (I can’t seem to find it on Youtube). Any Freepers have a link?

Oops - looks like he violated the circle of trust!

Reminds when the Real DeNiro appeared on SNL’s “The Joe Pesci Show”

Real Joe Pesci: You know, week after week, we watch you guys from our living rooms, supposedly imitating Joe Pesci and Robert DeNiro. When in fact, when in fact, you are doing caricatures of characters we have played in ‘Goodfellas’ and ‘Raging Bull’. Also, my friend, Mr. DeNiro, has a very extensive vocabulary, and does not speak in one-word sentences, like ‘a little bit’, and ‘over here’. Isn’t that right, Bobby? [The real Robert DeNiro nods] Also, I am actually a very calm, laid-back person. I do not break into lunatic, maniacal rages, when someone says something a little offensive. You know what I mean?

Jim Breuer: Oh, no, no, I know what you mean, Mr. Pesci. Absolutely. I’m just a huge fan of both you guys. This is—I mean—I love all the crazy characters you play. And just, the two of you, this is insane. [to Colin Quinn] Right?

Real Joe Pesci: Crazy? Insane? I mean, did I hear what he just said? Did he say what I thought he just said?

Real Robert DeNiro: I heard things. I heard ‘crazy’.

Real Joe Pesci: I mean, did he just insult us?

Real Robert DeNiro: A little bit. [to Colin Quinn] Who are you supposed to be?

Man, Robert De Niro is a fricking legend. All of his movies - ALL OF THEM - he just revels in his character.

I think probably one of my favorite DeNiro characters and films is Rupert Pupkin in Scorsese's "The King of Comedy" that he did with Jerry Lewis. It's obscure to some, but I think it's a great black comedy.

Martin Scorsese and De Niro have made some of the best & memorable cinema. “King” is a great film.

His work has been brilliant ... but I am so biased ... I can't be objective about his work.

“For you, she is beautiful. For me there is only my wife and son.”

Robert DeNiro playing the young Don Corleon Godfather II.
