help needed for selecting my new .45 auto handgun according to my requirements

have done research into the problem , why the ejected catridges hit my face . its because of bigger ejection ports on glock and hk handguns. the ejection port extends upwards and some rounds are not ejected sideways but upward and backward to the face. what do you think?

plus, i am right handed but my dominant eye is left so gun is right in front of my face so, the probability of ejected catridge hittin my face is higher compared to shooters with right dominant eye.

Currently i am using STOEGER COUGAR 9mm(it is same copy of Brettas COUGA R8000). I have fired nearly 7000 rounds from it without ant problem at all( I consider it as perfect gun except sights are not very good for fast acquistion of target). It has ejection port to the right only and not upwards like glock or hk etc, thatswhy the ejected carteridge never goes upwards and backwars on my face or torso.

Anyways, i want to switch to .45 auto . can you please guide me in choosing the a handgun in .45 auto with following chracteristics?

1. extreamely reliable and very durable.

2. polygonal barreling and other any features for highest accuracy.

3. ejection port to the right (not extended upwards).

4. decocker and manual safety(with safety on the pin should be blocked and not just the trigger).

5. fast target accquisition sights ( eg 3 dots or glock type sights or straight eight sights, and perferrably night sights to glow in dark).

6. medium or just compact size for concealed carry( but in no way the compactness should compromise the reliability and durability factor. meaning, the size factor can be compromised but not the reliability and long service life factor of the gun).

7. smoothest and lightest trigger pull possible as in my experience trigger pull adds considerably to acccuracy.

8. light weight if possible (but not at the stake of any other traits mentioned above).

9. ejected carteridge should not hit my face

10. The gun should not be needed to be cocked for getting locked(meaning the gun should have manual safety, and safety could be activated regardless the hammer is cocked or not unlike cz9mm).

11. lowest possible bore axis for accurate rapid shooting.

your help will be very much appreciated,

zeeshan

“i am right handed but my dominant eye is left”

This sort of question comes up on this blog about every month or two. It's always fun to get in on as everyone seems to weigh in. Sooo, here I go...

About your cross-dominant situation; my wife is right eye dominant and left handed. So, I taught her to shoot right handed. I suggest that you learn to shoot left handed. Reason being that shooting by looking over the barrel with your right eye is un-natural and awkward. With time, you will become proficient shooting left handed. I should know as I shoot left handed - of course I am a natural port sider. A little joke...

About what type of gun; this is where the experts come out of the woodwork. But, if you do decide to learn to shoot left handed and want to shoot an auto, suggest you look at one that has an ambidextrous safety and a magazine release that can be switched to either side. One pistol that comes to my mind with these features is the Beretta 92F. However, there are others too. Well, that's my two bits. Good luck!

Lots of choices but I think some of your criteria are a little to stringent.

You will not find accuracy in a compact or midsize ... you will be accurate enough in personal protection, ccw, or at home. (I still like the shotgun for home .. we have to many manneuverability problems. Para has a great mid size 45, based on 1911 .. ultra reliable, but too many parts for me and it gets lost in my meaty hands. (My wife carries it ..loves it)

Don’t laugh .. I CCW a full sized Colt 1911, and to heck with condition 2, or 3 for that matter. I stay cocked and locked all the time. Never a worry. The sear is blocked from releaseing the hanner, and unless the finger is on the trigger, unit in the hand .. It will not go off. I’ve seen numerous people AD by gently lowering the hammer (Cond 2) I do not have time to chamber a round when I need to draw.

Large? Yes. But I am a large man .. 6’6” and 317 stones. And large hands .. Only the large grips on a Sig elite fit .. And the sig makes a fine weapon, but old firendships die hard. I wear an IWB that carries in front ...in dockers and a golfshirt (tucked in) nobody knows.

Yup a Demorat Daily Kos pig trying to get email addy's to give to Obama for his upcoming raids.

All Freeper's know a Colt is the only real .45. The pretenders just spit brass in your face and you miss the target flinching. A real man takes the brass down the shirt and lets it burn the belly.

My Combat Commander spits them out the side and puts lead in the bulls eye. The rest are pretenders.

Yep. There are So many other forums to ask this kind of question. Why choose here? Why sign up on the 11th just to ask something you can do your own research on?

317 stones? Do you realize that 317 stones is 4438 lbs? You ARE a big guy.

If you want this weapon for personal protection, learn to shoot with either hand with both eyes open. Practice both hands @ no more than 5 to 6 yds. It's not likely you'll be annie oakly-ing anyone for protection (although it is possible).

Target shooting and paper cutting is something different. No kidding, my wife shoots archery with a pirate patch over one eye. We all give her heck for it but she is a decent shot and loves the sport; so what the heck, why not?

Well, it doesn't fit all of your criteria (all of that new-fangled, redundant safety stuff [just a training issue IMO], and that funny poly H&K barrel thing), but it's still darned hard to beat the original.

Buy a Colt 1911. Get a Commander or Officer's model if you absolutely need a compact gun.

I've had a few different Colts, as well as some “clones” for over 30 years now, and the Colts run like new and unlike some of their imitators and the plastic guns, they are worth waaaayyyy more than I paid for them back in the day. Plus, they don't need trick barrels and plastic to do their jobs.

If not a Colt, then in order of quality, value, and accuracy: the relatively new S&W 1911 series (damned good, but pricey), Kimber (ditto), or Springfield.

If you've got a cheap life, buy a cheap gun. Otherwise, get the best.

So this is all about you? What about the gun? Don't you think it has needs? I guess you never thought about that!

Gents,

zeehsan signed up on 11 Jul 08. Seems to be fishing for email addresses. Also posted the same question yesterday.

Your thoughts?

Wow! And I thought I was big! 317 Stone! That works out to 4438 pounds! What are you doing carrying a wimpy full sized 1911 concealed? I'll bet you can carry a Remington 870 concealed, along with several boxes of shells!

:-)

The last time I shot without a cap on, I took an ejected case between the corner of my eye and my eyeglasses. OUCH! But I kept on going.
