El Paso County deputies are looking for an African lion on the loose in the eastern part of the county.
Sheriff's Lt. Lari Sevene said the first call came in of large cat chasing several dogs through a field off of Log Road. That call came in at 7:35 a.m.
The resident told deputies the cat had a red mane and a big tail. Officers obtained a photo of the big cat.
A second sighting was reported after the first and a second resident also took a picture of the lion.

“Officers obtained a photo of the big cat.”
Are there so many African lions running around El Paso County that they were afraid they wouldn’t recognize it?

Wow. El Paso.
That’s just about the perfect climate for an African lion to thrive.
I hope they are able to recapture it.

Well, they wouldn’t want to capture the wrong lion, now, would they?
Such a thing could lead to all sorts of legal troubles.

It sounds like the police still don’t know who owns this lion.

Chertoff said they had started enforcing the border, but that’s a bit much don’t ya think?

Depending on whether its a male or female, I suppose a cougar could be mistaken for it, except for size. Wouldn’t want to run across either in the wild.

Organize a safari, George. I’ll bet Colorado doesn’t even require a tag to hunt African lions. :)

This reminds me of the time earlier in this decade when we were having Mountain Lion attacks in Orange County, CA.
I turned on the local Fox affiliate and watched the newscast.
They got the text of the story right, they told everyone it was a Mountain Lion, then they showed a picture of a “Mountain Lion” on the screen.
They had posted a picture of an African Lion complete with the shaggy mane.
Just more confirmation that we are stuck with uninformed, stupid people as journalists.

You can make friends with a lion by tickling it under the chin. Of course, it has to work the first time...
To: george76
El Paso you say? Is it possible to recruit the lion for some border patrol activity? I’ll pay to feed the big cat in exchange for the work.
