Amy Winehouse could struggle to catch her breath and hit high notes as a result of suffering emphysema, a lung expert has said.
The singer's father spoke out at the weekend about his worries that Winehouse could lose her life unless she kicks her drug habit.
In an interview with the Sunday Mirror, Mitch Winehouse said his daughter - who was rushed to hospital recently after collapsing - had developed the chronic lung disease emphysema, possibly brought on by smoking crack cocaine.

That was my first reaction too.......it wouldn’t surprise me in the least. Of course all her smoking and cocaine useage certainly pushed her lungs along to get in the shape they are in. But would be interested if indeed she is an alpha-1,,,,,if she is with all this publicity it would put this form of emphysema out there for people to learn about it. But the fact she is so young is what brought alpha 1 to mind..........
My husband was tested for it many years ago and his emphysema was not alpha-1 but we needed to know if it was considering it can be passed down to kids etc.
The lung thing is nothing. Her real problem is her hair.
I’ve really tied a few on over the years - pretty much all alcohol related.
But I can’t possibly imagine being so blitherlingly wiped out that I could have choked to death on my own vomit.
It happens with alarming frequency actually. Many years ago one of my fraternity brothers passed out drunk and was percolating vomit out of his mouth just like an old style coffee pot. I probably saved his life by rolling him on his side to keep his airway clear.

Thx for the link...I had never seen that one before. Her timing and phrasing are awesome...I first learned of her about three years ago. Perez Hilton had links on his page to some of her London clubs shows. Incredible preformances...but she was probably 30 pounds heavier, and a true jazz club icon. What demons she must carry to have let drugs do this to her...I hope her dad (and mom) can get her the help she needs.
