Cocaine 'damaged Winehouse's lungs'

Amy Winehouse could struggle to catch her breath and hit high notes as a result of suffering emphysema, a lung expert has said.

The singer's father spoke out at the weekend about his worries that Winehouse could lose her life unless she kicks her drug habit.

In an interview with the Sunday Mirror, Mitch Winehouse said his daughter - who was rushed to hospital recently after collapsing - had developed the chronic lung disease emphysema, possibly brought on by smoking crack cocaine.

I mentioned Robbie McIntosh choking on his own vomit, before I saw your tagline.

They will never recover though, it’s non reversible, isn’t it? Oh well, she can always hide her oxygen tank in her beehive.

I don’t know... she might blow up London if the crackpipe is still lit that she hides in there.

This is so sad.

Nobody medicates themselves into this kind of self destruction if they can possibly help it. It must be like a slow motion car crash. Yes, it's all ultimately her fault, but it's still sad.

I always like videos and music where you can really hear the talent of the person, without the "wall of sound" that recordings of today have. If you want to really hear her sing, try this:

What are the other variables... cause this couldn't "possibly" do this.

Well, I suppose it could if she's smoking it an awful lot and has some sort of genetic tendency toward lung problems.

I heard she smokes 6-8 packs of cigarettes a day. When does she have time to smoke Crack? I wonder what advice Keith Richards would have for her?

Here’s another. This is tremendous. I think this is far better than the official video.

I remember reading that Nat King Cole used to smoke many packs a day, because he thought it gave his voice that mellow low sound. And it killed him.

I’ve never even heard of her till about a week or so ago and that was here!

Looking at her, I think we should start a pool as to when she’ll commit suicide.

It’s all an act. She’ll just go too far with it.

I heard she smokes 6-8 packs of cigarettes a day.

Cocaine users always have a heightened compulsion for nicotine - the stimulation requires a depressant.

Didn’t Hank Williams choke on his own vomit while sleeping it off in the back seat of his car? Am I the only one old enough to remember Hank Williams?

Well, the official cause of death was never established. My opinion is that he died from Carbon Monoxide poisoning from a faulty exhaust system since he died in the back of a car in January. Morphine and alcohol may have also been involved.

His ‘improvisations’ were because he was so stoned he forgot where he was and what song he was playing.

Perfect description of the Grateful Dead and their followers....I've never understood the fascination some have with that group.....

Ding, ding, ding...we have a potential winner. My vote is for Alpha 1-antitrypsin deficiency.

The damage done from those drugs is beyond repair. Her emotional control or ability is irretrievable. Drugs are the only way she can feel anything.

And some here would argue that we need to legalize pot. That it is harmless and is an individual right. Amy’s problem started with that concept. To escape her normal existence. The problem is, it just requires a new level of escape each time. Pot leads to meth, coke, heroine and other deadly things.

There is no argument here either. There are some isolated cases that make the claim they can resist it, but for the majority, an addictive pattern eventually emerges and quicker for some. It’s a medical fact, to say otherwise is simply denial, and statistics clearly refute that denial.
