GENOA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Even the Air Force knows a good burger is hard to find.

Aaron Kay's superior officer agreed to extend the serviceman's leave by one week so he could be on hand for the opening of a new White Castle restaurant in Livingston County.

Fresh, hot and aromatic, I almost swooned with pleasure savoring each luscious bite.

I feel the same way about 'em. Steam-grilled on a bed of onions...MMMmmmm! And I've never experienced any of the, um, "bad effects" some people ascribe to WC burgers.

I admire your restraint. I always stop in when in the midwest for a white castle frenzy, and always regret the six pack with a large fry I put away. Rinse, lather, repeat.

Being from Chicago, one has to like a good vienna Chicago style hot dog, italian beef, or chicago style pizza as well?

In Florida, you get a blank stare when you ask for an Italian beef. They try to push some horrible concoction called a "Filly Sandwich" on you instead....yeah, I know how to spell it correctly.

There was one place that advertised Chicago pizza, but it was really counterfeit and eventually closed, as I knew it would. Can't fool a Bears fan.

Everything is New York style in Florida because of the tens of thousands of New York city Italians that moved to the Sunshine State over the decades to open little restaurants and pizza joints. New York pizza sauce is different from that of the midwest, even the Italian sausage is seasoned plus ground differently.

Can't get Chicago-style Vienna hot dogs in Florida either.....true Chicago being poppy-seed bun, mustard, diced white onion, relish, couple of tomato slices, couple of cucumber slices, a thin, long dill pickle on top.....and of course, the celery salt that makes a Chicago hot dog "Chicago".

So, while I'm here in suburban Downers Grove I'm gorging away on White Castles, thin, thin, thin-crust pizza, Italian beef sandwiches dripping with cooked-in-oil green pepper, Vienna hot dogs a la Chicago.....I'm even going to get some Brown's chicken one of these evenings.

You shouldn't have gotten me started!

Everything washed down with Pepsi, of course. True White Sox fans don't drink Coke.

Sorry but the taste-bud zombies are the ones that think these vile minuscule greaseballs are actually food, much less good food worth eating. Wouldn’t feed those things to an annoying neighbor dog, it’s just too cruel. One of these days they’re going to figure out what drug WC puts in the burgers to get people hooked then they’ll all go to jail. WC: exactly what a hamburger should never even resemble.

Ahh, gettin hungry. I usually pass through and buy bulk from Jewel on the Italian beef (with a few sticks of gonella bread) while stopping for a good hotdog at the seediest place I can find.

Aw, yer just jealous of the delicate, refined taste buds and cast-iron stomachs of we mid-westerners. The White Castle near me has a continual line of cars in the drive-thru.....proof positive of the exquisite taste of WC patrons. Eat yer Whataburgers.....oops, eat your heart out.

I’m a mid-western native, Chicago actually, that’s why I know WCs are vile unedible piles of filth that should be thrown away. Madonna sells a lot of albums too, doesn’t mean anybody with a sense of self respect listens to her crap. Don’t eat Whataburger either, not as vile as WC but not exactly food, Whataburger has the additional bonus of their corporate colors being brown and orange so the stores all look filthy even when brand new.

Are you actually reading what I wrote? Didn’t say anything about life expectancy and said nothing that any sane person would think of as vegan. Just pointing out that WC burgers are grotesque lumps of gunk that any self respecting person would never put in their mouth after that first horrible mistake. It’s not having meat that makes WC gross it’s what they do to it. Not vegan, not vegetarian, I grew up in Chicago I consider those people the enemy, meat is yummy, at least until lame places like WC get a hold of it.
