Why Men Hate Sex and the City
Rush Limbaugh Show ^ | June 9, 2008 | Rush Limbaugh

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: There's a little story here in Madison, Wisconsin. It's by somebody named Michael James Moore: "Why Do Men Hate 'Sex and the City'?" Dawn, have you been to see Sex and the City? Never watched the show, she has no intention of going to see the movie. It did gangbusters out there in its opening weekend. I don't know if Dr. De Cock was in the audience, but it did something like $55 million and chick flicks do not do that well. Most people don't see them. Chicks do. But this attracted all kinds of chicks. This story, "Why Do Men Hate 'Sex and the City'?" They don't hate Sex and the City. The reason these men don't go to it is theorized here. Would you like to hear some of the theories from Michael James Moore?

"Media coverage has tried to assess how and why Carrie & Co. induce such massive 'female bonding.' Then there's the other question: Why are men turned off? Vast swaths of the male population will not -- under any circumstances! -- go see this movie." The theory is, "It's the friendships that run so deep -- that's what the men are envious about." They are envious about the deep bonded relationships that these four women have. That's what it says here. "Individually, each was merely interesting. Together, they were wizards," describing the four women. "That 's the guy thing in a nutshell: individual heroics as opposed to being part of a group of kindred spirits. Superman? Rocky? Rambo? Zorro? The majority of heroes in Westerns? Or in war films? Almost always, they're solitary." Men do not bond. He goes on to stay in this story that the only time men get together as friends is when they're boozing it or playing golf or basketball or some such thing, and that they just are envious of the deep bonded friendships in Sex and the City.

Do you want to know, Mr. Michael James Moore, why men don't go see this movie? I'll be glad to tell you. The reason men don't go see this movie, is A, these kinds of women make them sick; the kinds of women that are always shopping for the latest high heels and sitting around in bars drinking drinks bitching about men all the time. People that are constantly involved in relationship analysis will drive men to the golf course, the bar, or wherever they want to go faster than anything. The last thing that a guy wants to hear about is relationship analysis. It ain't going to happen. And there's another reason, Mr. Michael James Moore, why men are not going to watch Sex and the City. The women in this movie are not hot. I hate to be so blatantly honest here. The only way to get a man to see a chick flick is if Cameron Diaz or Julia Roberts or somebody similar is in the damn movie. Hot women. This new movie, as well as the TV show, offers horse face, giraffe neck, skank well past her time, and that Brunette who is not bad looking but certainly not enough to make up for all the rest.

So any man considering doing his duty by accompanying a date to this movie knows beforehand that he will have nothing to distract him from the interminable relationship analysis that comprises the chick flick. You might watch Cameron Diaz or Julia Roberts or take your pick -- there are lots of actresses out there talking about relationships -- because you can ignore what they're saying when you look at them, but that doesn't work in this movie, Mr. Michael James Moore. Please pass this on to the friends at Media Matters for America and the Obama campaign, and by the way, pass it on to the McCain campaign. They'll be very upset with me since they're trying to woo Hillary voters.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Back to Sex in the City for just a second. There's a method here to my madness in naming the four women as I did, mere moments ago, and describing why men are not going to go see the movie or have no interest in it. And I got the usual emails, "How dare you refer to them that way. It's so unnecessary." Okay. You're right. It was unnecessary, except to make this point. You want to know why women are really going to see this movie? It's precisely because of Undeniable Truth of Life #24 which states: "Feminism was established so as to allow unattractive women easier access to the mainstream." It is the guys who want to see Cameron Diaz, Julia Roberts and the rest of these clowns discussing relationships. But women want to see Horse Face, Over the Hill Sex Kitten, Grand Canyon Neck, whatever. So they can relate to them. This de Cock guy, this guy from the World Health Organization. This De Cock guy... What, are you still shocked that I'm talking about this, Dawn? Mmm-hmm. Uh... Dawn is telling me that I'm out of touch if I think that Kim Cattrall at 51 years old is no longer a sex kitten or whatever. She says, "You need to look at other 51-year-olds." No, I don't. See, that's the point. I want to look at 31-year-olds. You have to suspend... What did Hillary say? You have to suspend disbelief to accept the fact that what's going on with that bunch is actually happening to them in real life. In their dreams.

I’ve watched SATC’s cleaned up version on TBS. I went to see the movie a couple of days ago. I thought the writing was really bad compared to the series. The only reason I can imagine that a man would want to see this movie is for the nudity and sex scenes.(There were several) There’s a scene where Kim Catrall’s character Samantha is nude and has pieces of sushi covering her in “strategic” places. I regret the $4.50 I spent on this movie(matinee), and the 2+hours that I wasted on a bright, sunny day.

funny how the nerd crowd never seems to put the vulcan and the slut as the same actress.

Ahem. I beg to differ. Hell, I remember when she'd have gone with Jack Burton.... but there was a problem with her face....

I saw the SITC movie this past weekend week end with one of my best girl friends and we loved it.

I have to admit I liked the series although I didn’t at first and I didn’t always agree with or even always like the characters or some of the choices they made and it’s definitely adult fair and not everyone’s cup of tea.

But I think that people who never watched the show make blind assumptions that it’s just all about wealthy women living in NYC, having indiscriminate sex with any man who comes along while wearing fabulous designer clothes and shoes and going to chi chi restaurants and how men can sometimes be cads. Well admittedly, there was some of that going on and some of it is played for humor or for irony, but if that’s all one got out of it, they never really watched it or one totally missed the point, at least the one I got from it.

The show and the movie wasn’t really about sex or even men, but about the close and sometimes difficult and sometimes brutally honest but long lasting and supportive relationships that women have with one another as they go through the many stages and joys and some mistakes of life – dating, career, marriage, children, infertility, infidelity, divorce, illness, menopause, reconciliation…. I can tell you that when my very best girlfriends and I get together we tell each other everything and I mean everything. The raunchy and boastful conversations that men have in the locker room have nothing on the casual but very honest conversations that women can have with each other over a sandwich and salad at Panera Bread.

And I really liked how the movie ended. In the end it wasn’t at all about fashion or materialism or man bashing and in fact the way I saw it, the end of the movie was a bit of a statement about how material things and possessions really aren’t that important. The last scene in the move ends in a simple greasy spoon diner, very far from being a chi chi restaurant with three of the gals happily married to really great guys, some of them with kids, and husbands who have shown that, while not perfect stereotypes of the picture perfect man; are still really great guys and worth committing to. In the end, husbands and family and good friends are more important than the clothes or really great hand bags or shoes or fabulous penthouse apartments.

I LIKE chick flicks...but this has gotta’ be a slut flick. Chick flicks have romance, and decency pays off.

I’d never watch one of those shows (not much of a TV’r); and I’d NEVER pay to sit THROUGH an extension!

Lol! Nice to know someone who shares my picky tastes. Hollywood was so much better when classy ladies and gentlemen graced the silver screen with REAL talent! (and no, I’m not an old geezer!!) ;)

I went for the fashion show and stayed for the nude profile of the neighbor at the Malibu house.

Limbaugh is at it once again trying to pretend he is being original when this came from Michael Savage originally about a week or so ago. Then I guess copying someone is considered the best form of flattery.

When I heard Limbaugh say, “horse face” that was the dead give away. He is still ok, but kind of out of touch now. IMHO...

My theory is that "Sex and the City" is basically a fantasy show for a certain type of young woman.

I've also heard that the show is written by homosexual men. If so, that sure put a strange twist on the fantasy thing.

Those of you who have refused -- on principle or for other reasons -- to watch the show or see the movie just might be missing something you would have enjoyed.

Is this a good enough reason?

If you regularly watch just about any show, you will probably grow to like the characters and look forward to taking a peek at their lives every so often. That happened to me with this show.

The movie - and the show - are a doctorate’s thesis on everything I don’t want my daughter to be.

"There are ways to be a strong, intelligent woman without being a vacuous, materialistic slut."

What every parent should say to their daughters right after, "Good morning."

Of course when boys treat impressionable girls who soak in this pop culture cr*p like sluts both sides treat it as “normal”. (it also helps the newer generations keep their low self esteem complexes so they will be easy pickings for teh advertisers [buy this and you will be worthy for sex])

Hmmm. Perhaps boys are not the ones we should rely on to determine the course of our culture.

I don’t hate it but it makes women look unfit to do much besides buy shoes and audition for bordello employment.

It didn’t empower diddly

I've never seen an episode of "Sex and the City" and really have no desire to see the movie.

Last weekend, a friend and I went to see the Indiana Jones movie. It was "SATC's" opening night at the same theater. All of the shows for it were sold out (which was good, because we had no problem getting tickets for the Indy Jones movie.)

The line to get into the "SATC" theater was ALL women and most of them were dressed to the nines. This was one of those theaters that serves dinner and drinks and most of those women in the line were sporting Cosmoplitans in their freshly manicured hands.

We thought it was hilarious that all these women got all dressed up, coiffed, manicured, etc. to go see a freakin' movie.
