Speaking of gas ~~ Did you happen to hear the “speech” Ms. Pelosi gave the other day on Global Warming. During that “speech” she talked about all the good things the Dems were going to do once they got into office, listing some of them and leaving me completely mystified.

Can you tell me how one can “recapture personal methane and reprocess it”? That was one of her biggies and I’m darned if I can think of anything short of a - no, no, no, I’m going to go there.

Personal methane recapture? Sounds like rather than a skirmish in the global warming wars it appears to be only a rear guard action...;-))

I need some advice and questions answered about my HP Pavilion notebook computer AND about a USB 2.0 to SATA/IDE enclosure kit.

Our congress thinks we are so stupid that we do not understand the laws of supply and demand. When there is more demand than supply, the prices go up. When there is more supply than demand, the prices go down.

YES, IT IS THAT SIMPLE!

DRILL HERE AND DRILL NOW. The gas prices would drop overnight.

9000. And a 17” screen if that is important.

My computer died on me back in Papua. It would not boot. I finally located a local place there and they got it going again. But last week it stopped booting again.

So, I took it in to a repair place here and they told me the mother board died.

Well during the interim in Papua, between the time it died and the time I found the repair shop, a less competant repair shop sold me a kit whereby they inserted the hard drive inside a casing and I connected it up to a computer (actually several) via a USB port. But alas, I thought the problem was solved and so I left that casing behind.

So, the repair shop today - here in the US - told me to get that enclosure kit and it would read my hard drive enough to back up the data. However, I am not quite sure what I’m getting. There seem to be several to chose from. I have found something on Amazon which looks like it might work but as I was reading the technical stuff there was no mention of a dongle connecting via any port much less a USB. AAAAaach!

Also, why could the shop in Papua get the machine to boot and not the group here? I’m thinking I’ll take it back in January and that shop could work on it again. Any thoughts on this?

One nice thing about the shop today. The gentleman very kindly offered to show me where my hard drive was located. I pointed out to him that I have that, at least, figured out.

If you are in the states, and have access to another computer, download an ISO of Knoppix and burn it, and see if it boots off the CD/DVD.

Knoppix works well with HP/Compaq abortions.

If that fails, it's a hardware problem.

Reboot on a reasonable OS first.

HD failures do happen, but they are very rare these days. It took me 2 drops to see my first one.

Do you have a link for that, or do I need to do a google search for Knoppix?

Also, what do you mean to “reboot on a reason.. first?” Do you mean test it on another computer? Or do you mean, test it on another computer which doesn’t run Vista or any Windows?
