FRANKLIN, Massachusetts (AP) -- Diana Bardsley wiped tears from her eyes as she recalled taking food off her plate to feed her beloved spaniel Hunter and two Siamese cats.

BUMP!
I freaking bag of dry cat food at Wal Mart is a whopping $3.47
Funny!
She can always give up the pets she can’t afford and have some babies she can’t afford and get the government to pick up the tab.
Sheeesh....I was cooking for almost a year for my dog when the Chicom Chia Pet Genocide was occurring. He loved it and now expects it!! LOL!!
BUT... I have three young, healthy cats. If one of them was 16 years old and on medication to keep it alive, and I couldn't afford it, I'd have it put to sleep. They are my angels, and they are my responsibility, but they are not humans. One has to prioritize.
I have no sympathy for the owner of multiple pets either. One should be more than enough.
I got a dog from a shelter two months ago — seemed nice enough. Now — whoa! Big behavioral problems surfacing and if I don’t want to get sued next time she nips at some kid, I’d better get a trainer. Let’s see, already spent well over $1K on adoption, vet bills, meds, food, toys, crate, DNA test, you name it.
I’m unsure whether to continue or cut my losses and say that’s it, turn the dog back to a “rescue.” And I can afford to pay for all of this, I just didn’t anticipate the monetary costs beforehand! If one can’t afford it, it should be a no-brainer. No money, no pets.
We’ve had Chinese restaurants closed in our area by the board of health because of the animal carcases that were found within the establishments. In some parts of the world its considered a delicacy! I mean, come on, has CNN turned into the Onion!?

Shhhh! My taxes are high enough, don’t give them any more ideas.
“I know a lot of people will probably say, ‘Well, if you don’t have enough money to be able to feed your animals, that you shouldn’t have pets,”’ said Bardsley, 53.
Well, DUH!! You answered your own question!! You are on Social Security (at age 53), and you are receiving food stamps, and I am paying for it!! Some people just don’t get it. ))shaking head((
I don’t know, I think it’s stupid for somebody on welfare to get pets, but I feel bad for someone who got a pet when they had a job and could afford it and then got laid off and can’t afford to take care of it anymore. The lady in the picture was disabled in an accident and her cats are 15 years old. I guess she probably got them a long time before her accident when she was still employed.
I don’t feel like paying for her cat food but I don’t feel like laughing at her either. Anyone could find themselves in hard times. Giving up a family pet because you lost your job really would be sad.
Neat picture! Thanks for the ping.
