*Gray Fox*

I have been enjoying a momma gray fox and her youngsters
coming onto the patio..My first look at the babies was when they
were like the picture below..Lately I have seen the youngsters..
3 of them looking like miniatures of their mom..Mom loves
peanuts..All enjoy drinking out of the birdbath saucer.

I love critters but rabies has gotten so bad around here we’re scared to hardly look at anything, much less feed it.

That’s a shame.
I have been feeding raccoons for years..The fox found leftover peanuts and gave me the first look ever of her young..I am not outside when she comes but the raccoons trust me and I go out and replenish food..

I never touch or startle them..

Is there much rabies in your area? There was a fox here a couple of weeks ago, right in town. Went over a chain link fence after the 3 dogs inside.

January 22, 2008)—There were 296 laboratory-confirmed animal rabies cases reported in thirty Central Texas Counties in 2007, according to the Department of State Health Service Region 7.

The number of rabies cases has risen the last three years.

In 2005 there were 199 confirmed cases of rabies in the 30 county area, and in 2006 there were 255 confirmed cases.

Rabies was confirmed in 184 bats, 94 skunks, 4 dogs, 3 cats, 3 foxes, 3 horses, 3 raccoons, 1 opossum, and 1 coyote.

Love it..One of mine puts her nose to my sliding door begging for more food..or just checking me out.. I am a sucker for their look. Somtimes she’ll stand up against the door.

I just checked—474 cases statewide last year, with nearly 300 of those raccoons. We’ve got 100 counties—much smaller than yours, I’m sure! Our county only had one case, so media hype strikes again. Still...
