A Johnson Road resident has periodically been confronted with a bag of trash deposited in her driveway and it appears crows may have helped identify a culprit.
Fed up, the resident called the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department this week and reported the latest unwelcome gift. The resident reported that trash has been deposited in her driveway several times over the years...
Arriving at the residence on Wednesday, Dow said he picked up a trash bag that had been dropped off and when he did so, part of a court summons fell out through a hole pecked out by crows.
The summons carried the name and address of a New York resident who has a camp in the area.

I knew a lady that had a problem with a group of deer hunters that left a huge pile of trash in their camp- which was on this lady’s ranch. She found something in the trash pile that had a name and address on it, bagged up all the trash and took it to the guy’s house and dumped it in his immaculate yard. I wonder if he learned to clean up after himself?
Frankly, I'm wondering if some editor was encouraging a reporter to work an animal angle into some of her stories. The crow thing here just seems totally forced.
My great uncle had someone depositing their trash in his driveway for free trash pickup, until one day he got tired of it, went through it and found an address. He then proceeded to dump it all over their yard.
That seemed to take care of the problem.

This lady you describe would get along well with my great uncle...or maybe not. :) I’m glad it didn’t take a crow to open the bag for them.
Someone stole the trash from that New York guy and put the summons under the bag, then...

A little moral dilemma I’ve occasionally considered yet never succumbed to- if your municipality has free garbage service (or prepaid bags), and you miss pick-up and the house opposite has yet to be reached (may not be reached for hours, in fact), is it okay to put your bags on the opposing house’s tree lawn (can’t ask as owners work and are never seen)?
Just curious for opinions....

I can see this kind of response had the trash bag been the first incident. Given that it has repeatedly happened, I think that’s a pretty milquetoast response. I would just issue him a summons or fine him whatever is appropriate for littering. If he has a defense, he can present it himself. As it is, the man will just assert the latter excuse and will get away with it.

My neighbors and I use each other’s trash cans all the time and if someone goes to work and forgets to put their cans on the street, one of us will stop and roll them out.
Good to hear. I’m occasionally in this position, yet feel inexplicably horrible about the idea. I keep a spare garbage can in the garage for the weeks I forget. Was wondering if it was just me :D
Not everyone is willing to dig through bags of trash to get information. I wouldn't the first few times, but eventually, I'd be ticked off enough to do so.
Not really free as you pay for the collection via taxes.

One time my neighbors took my big city trash bin from my carport and rolled it to the street in front of their house and filled it with trash. I was furious because they had the stinkiest trash bin in the world. You could smell it from a 100-feet away! I didn’t want that stuff in my bin, LOL. Yuck!
Along that line, 80% of the neighbors have their cans out today, since Thursday is normal trash collection. I guess they already forgot that Monday was Memorial Day, and that always delays pickup one day.

That was the first thing that came to my mind, too. "I cannot tell a lie, officer. I put that envelope at the bottom of that trash pile."
I had a friend who used to raise English Mastiffs...they used a 4 yard dumpster to offload the crap. They lived down the street from a trailer park. Most of those folks wouldn't pay for pickup so they'd hunt for a dumpster and toss their stuff in. Since the dumpster was near road, you could see it from the house. On several occasions we delighted in watching these trashy folks roll up in a pickup, toss out the trash bags...open the lid...about faint...put bags back in truck and drive off. It was like redneck repellent.
