**Official SINGLES THREAD 9-11 MAY** On Singles and DIY
9th May 2008 | Snugs

Posted on 05/09/2008 5:32:54 PM PDT by snugs

Does your home reflect your single status including your attitudes towards it or are they formed from childhood and how your parents home was like.

Is your home functional, decorative, needs attention and somewhat tired or well maintained and modern? If you had a partner do you think it would be different?

Daveloneranger gave a few single spins on the topic.

Would a guy who can “DIY” be somehow more attractive to a lady?

If he was not a pratical person either around the house or with cars/bikes or other machines would that make him somehow less attractive, appealing or at least “marketable”?

On the otherhand does women doing DIY stuff etc more or less appealing to men?

What got me to think about this subject was that we had an insurance claim due to a roof leak part of the claim covered redecoration to the bathroom and painting/wall papering one of the bedrooms and papering landing, drop and hallway. This led me to start the painting and thinking about flooring upstairs and in the hallway that needed to be done. This kicked started me whereas before I was quite content to live in the tired look of the home.

This had happened after mum became too old to do the DIY dad as long as things function is not too worried about it looking modern and prestine and as for matching well he would never notice. I am very similar in some ways and go for function above matching and look but this insurance claim gave me the opportunity to actually have a few areas of the house that do match and are more modern.

I would surmise for me I am quite happy to live in tired but functional house but if kicked started can enjoy and want something better and probably if I had a partner who was into the DIY etc would be more into it.

"I am attracted to men who can fix things/problem solve etc. My dad was extremely handy with projects etc."

I have the same problem. My father is extremely talented in many ways: carpentry, plumbing, painting, wiring, gardening, autos. The whole manly man thing. It's hard to find a guy who begins to compare. lol I like a guy that can do stuff, cause unfortunately he didn't teach ME any of that - except for the painting and wallpapering! I have a lot of respect for a man who can do more than push a pencil. :~P

Just did a DYI with my lawnmower tonight. Brother needed to work on his truck so he instructed me what to do. We both finished our projects successfully. Now I can do yarkwork tomorrow. My hands are still dirty and greasy.

Lots of finished and unfinished DYI around my place. I would do a lot more but the body isn't as cooperative as it was years ago. Plus priorities have changed. So it's a little here and a little there after I have my fill of kayaking and fishing and camping and shooting and biking and...

There’s a balance there somewhere, I think at least.

This is a different kinda thread :-) I would say ‘Of Course’, Not to mention past hobbies that pileup!

***Does your home reflect your single status including your attitudes towards it or are they formed from childhood and how your parents home was like.***

Needs some attention and adequate. It would probably change with a partner, not picky with that kind of thing.

***Is your home functional, decorative, needs attention and somewhat tired or well maintained and modern? If you had a partner do you think it would be different?***

I think so. He would be saving them money for the household.

If he was not a pratical person either around the house or with cars/bikes or other machines would that make him somehow less attractive, appealing or at least “marketable”?

I suspect it would, at least to women with a brain.

On the otherhand does women doing DIY stuff etc more or less appealing to men?

I sure wouldn't mind. I could always learn from her, and I think I would even find it sexy.

lol!

We’re not here often, but we actually met on FR and the Singles Thread had a lot to do with it.

We still feel loyal. It’s tough out there!

(Is that an extension of landscaping?)

I like to "incorporate" landscaping and gardening. It's more fun and attractive....plus....no wasted space and everything seems to have a function and purpose.

I have a small organic garden (16x20) where I grow my veggies...then a few decorative islands which have my rosemary, sage and other herbs...mixed with flowers and shrubs. My fruit trees are spaced around the property in various places (no orchard) because we have heavily wooded property.

I had to laugh about the Y2K thing....because that was one reason I got interested in animal husbandry. I had to give up the goats, chickens and turkeys when I went back to college a couple years ago.....but I'm beginning to hanker for that again. *chuckle*

We raised bees as well....but the hives have now been taken over by wild ones. I liked bee-keeping but it's very time-consuming. It's great for the crops/fruit trees tho.

I guess I'm a city-slicker come to the country (20 yrs ago) and can't see going back. I love the peace & quiet.....neighbors who live a mile down the road.... the opportunity to get creative, work hard and then sit back to enjoy what you've done.

I like the sounds of that. I'd much rather be doing those other things than doing some home project.

:o) I had planned on getting quite a bit done over the winter. But, you know, even ice fishing can’t be put off. That’s ok, one of the great advantages of being single.

On the other hand, having another half to share the load might mean getting project done together. On the OTHER hand, maybe not, if they’re both ready to scram out and play. Who knows? Who cares?! If the weather is nice or not that bad, I’m so outta here!

Need some rose advice here for little Bills

The Knock Out Roses are good ones for a beginner. There is also a low growing, ground cover type, Rose, but I have no experience with it, so I am reluctant to recommend it.

Good Luck Bill

LOL. No need for the gun (other than to make you do the yardwork for me - HA!) I don’t understand women who won’t do yardwork - might break their precious fake nails... *rolling eyes*

You think a running lawnmower at the crack of dawn would be really irritating for the neighbors? My next door neighbor’s little yappy dog was running around the neighborhood barking away last night. I’m chasing the little rat around and banging on the neighbor’s door at 11:30 because it kept me awake. If I would have caught that bugger, it would stil be trying to get a roll of duct tape off its snout.

Ooh, got to have the garden hose ready today! heh heh!

You sound quite the handyman. Laminated floors were very popular in Britain though lately quite a few people seem to be going back to carpet.

I must admit gardening is not my thing I love a beautiful garden as long as I do not have to to do the work.

I do not mind watering the plants and even planting a few but as for mowing and weeding I am afraid I am not interested.

I do not mind if I get the time painting fences and sheds but the rest unfortunately even though I love the results I cannot get enthused about and would much rather be indoors cooking or watching TV.

Hello!! Great to see you. I hope all is well.

I retired a couple of weeks ago, and am trying to eliminate all the piles of stuff I shoved into closets while I was working. This is not a “weekend project”
