You must be a mourning dove basher or something, because my day just would not have been the same without that.

I have mourning doves all over my yard everyday. They congregate around my garden pool and nest in my trees. They empty my birdfeeders regularly. They make really crappy nests BTW. Not much more than a pile of sticks stuck in a fork of the tree........

I have one nesting, on my back balcony, with two eggs, makes it a pain to enjoy the balcony with the freakin bird sitting there.

I have them too here in north central Florida, but only two pairs that come everyday so far. They don’t like coming close to the house because I have a few cats. So, I put food way out in the yard for them. I didn’t know that about the nests. I guess they’re minimalists.

Sometimes they don’t even bother with the sticks. They just find some old stuffing from a mattress and make a pile. They are hell on lawn furniture cushions......Some of the ones here don’t pay any attention to me at all. I walk by and they just look up at me.........

Frankly, I’m amazed that mourning doves are even still with us as a species. They give new meaning to the phrase “negligent parent” (and nest builder). But they do have one big thing going for them: they can churn out three to four (or more) broods a year.

It adds up to a lot of mourning doves. But they’re fun to watch.

Try playing it backwards, with your monitor upside down.

I did that and I heard a whispering demonic voice say "Obama will be your next president." and an image on the monitor like mr. potato head. Scared the hell out of me. I still have goose bumps. *Shiver*

I have a couple that wake me up every morning at 5:50 am. OK during the week, I just wish they would shut up on weekends.

they haven’t woken us up yet, the wifey is scared to death of birds, so after the next batch is hatched and gone, the hanging basket is going away as well.
