What would be great entertainment at the RNC in Minneapolis?

A colleague of mine and I were discussing great groups that would be ideal for entertaining at the Republican National Convention, and I thought why not see if any of the many brilliant freepers might have a bit of wisdom in this matter.

I'm a little older so not too up on all that hip music the kids are listening to, but some good ideas were:

3 Doors Down Switchfoot Sara Evans

and my favorite:

Hall & Oates (I told you I was old)

I appreciate any constructive ideas.

Thanks in advance.

How about Dan Aykroyd and a handcuffed actor doing a Joe Friday skit from Dragnet:

Older hippie: “Hey man. That’s my chick!” (He has one arm of the 30-year-old looking runaway and Friday has the other arm.)

Friday: “The only chick you’re going to have is chicken soup in the LA County Jail, mister. You see this girl is a decent, family-loving, daughter of a hard-working father and loving mother who lost her way after scum like you gave her some LSD, acid, or whatever name you punks call it now days. Sure, she’s tripping, she’s loaded, she’s flying around the moon, she’s whacked out, she’s wasted, she’s zombied, she’s mamboed-bomboaded out of her mind thanks to you and your low-life, lazy, flag-burning, pot-smoking hippie scum friends but you can bet on this, commie-pinko, I’m going to be there every time you try and lure one of these kids with your pot and your LSD and your Volkswagen vans and paisley shirts! I’m going to be there and when I catch you I’m going to put you right back in the jail and then I’m going to be there when you get out and get back in your Volkswagen van and put on your puffy little shirt and paisley vest and then I’m going to be there when you stop for gasoline and waffles.”

How about Bob Dylan? He’s a Minnesota native and a conservative.

Remember, the prospective nomimee was born in 1936. Let's see ...scribble..cipher..scribble... He would have turned 16 in 1952, and 18 in 1954. So even the Beach Boys are way beyond his time.

Maybe "Johnny Be Good", "Don't Be Cruel", "Why Don't You Do Right?", "Big Spender", "Fever", "Heartbreak Hotel", "All Shook Up", "Maybellene" "Charlie Brown", "Splish Splash", and other tunes of his era. Maybe some nice Sinatra or Dean Martin stuff?

Or one he'd surely like, "The Rebel-Johnny Yuma"?

And since he's a retired Squid, "Anchors Aweigh".

They need to auction off the pies.

I’ll give a $100 to throw one in Arnie’s face.

We should put that out for bid-—there’s a lot of money to be made for the chance to hurl a pie at Arnuuuld.

Elvis

A very good choice. Elvis was only born about 19 months before McCain. His first single (That's All Right) was released in July of 1954, when McCain would have been either getting ready for, or already participating in "Plebe Summer" activities at the Naval Academy.

My understanding is the entertainment is for those attending. It’s pricey to go, so most attending are from age 40-80, so it would make sense to me that they choose someone that’s gonna appeal to that crowd. That’s why some of these new bands, in my opinion, wouldn’t necessarily be crowd pleasers.

The best would be Billy Joe Shaver, bar none. He’s a tremendous singer/songwriter and is an unabashed Christian and patriot. My wife and I saw him in Vienna, VA last year on what happened to be September 11 and he brought tears to our eyes. He started with his song “Freedom’s Child” then went on to tell the crowd that he’s been to just about every country in the world and there’s nothing that comes close to the USA. Of course, a good conservative like Billy Joe might refuse an invitation with McCain as the nominee.

That does not sound entertaining. But I guess taste in entertainment differs, LOL.
