Mmmm... chicken... I made some real fried chicken the other night using panko crumbs (Japanese style breadcrumbs, some grocery stores sell them). They’re so light that they made a really lovely crispy crust. I’d never made fried chicken before so I was happy how it turned out.

My grandmother never used panko crumbs.

Panko crumbs are terrific! I used some to bread some cubed steak the other day and cooked it in our Breville Grill. They were SO good! They work well as a breading for fish, too!

Japanese question: I know that Maru has to do with "ship" (the only example I can think of is the Starfleet Training Exercise Kobiyashi Maru), and that -chan is a suffix of endearment as in the vey weird cartoon Shin-chan...

Therefore...

Does Maruchan, makers of Ramen, mean something like "Dear Ship", or is it a coincidence?
