If you didnt have your calendar marked this day (04/29/2008) is an important day; the third service pack for Windows XP has been released to Windows Update today. It may not be trickling down just yet but several sites have already posted manual updates that can be downloaded.
DailyTech reports that Microsoft hasnt yet posted an official download for SP3 but BetaNews does have a download link that goes straight back to Windows Update.
Windows XP SP3 is more than just a regular Service Pack including more than 1,100 hotfixes/patches which has new features such as Network Access Protection and Black Hole Router detection.
SP3 will also bring new life into the operating system that so many are unwilling to give up for Windows Vista. Windows XP SP3 is roughly a 316MB download and will be hitting automatic updates later today or if youre feeling more adventurous, can be manually downloaded right now. At least you wont have to hunt down a shady source for the update any more.

My suspicion is that it will somehow make it more necessary to install Vista sooner that most would like. It is sad but I don’t really trust Balmer.
Eggzactlee!! Not feeling in the guinea pig mood here today, since we have three brand new XP machines that are running perfectly fine.
Haven't had automatic updates on for years. I like XP, but do not trust M-slop, as they be real good at fixin' things that ain't broke.
IMHO, Windows Media Player 11 sucks badly, and is a downgrade from 10, so we stick with 10. And we're one version behind on IE, by choice.
You shouldn't oughta throw out straight lines like that around here.
Which I've already answered previously, you run VMware Workstation instead, just as VMware would tell you if you asked them.
Got mine the other day...
I installed it the other day; so far, no problems....
shut up
Better make that "more than 1,101 hotfixes."

Don’t like it when your pointless question keeps getting exposed?
We had a presentation at the office today from our primary software provider. They said they are having very few problems with Vista, primarily because most of their major corporate users are not installing Vista.
This was part of their answer to our question as to what they were doing about our problems with their software and Vista.
LOL!
Nothing funny about it, every metric out here shows lower numbers of infections for Vista than XP, so much so that malware authors are even changing their primary angle of attack from the O/S to installed apps. Are you saying you’re completely unaware of these facts?
Sorry, I am not a 64 bit man. :(
Work has decreed that I run 64-bit Vista Ultimate. But I can't get any work done on the VMs because of my issue. :(
Your supposed issue is a phantom one, as I’ve said several times all you need is the “workstation” version of VMware, not the “server” version since Vista is a workstation O/S. VMware Player is also compatible with Vista 64-bit. But if you’re hell bent on running an incompatible product in an unsupported mode, you can disable several Vista security features such as requiring signed drivers and internal integrity checks, and possibly get it working that way.

My business requirements are 64-bit Vista and VMware Server.
Not Workstation. Not Player. Not ESX. Not GSX.
VMware Server.
Get it through your head that sometimes we, as employees, actually have to follow the business requirements.
Now stay out of this since you obviously can't solve this issue.
Well you should tell your business leaders you've learned those are incompatible products. VMware Workstation and VMware Player are VMware's compatible products, which is VMware's decision. Have you not checked with VMware on this yourself yet?
Now stay out of this since you obviously can't solve this issue.
What are you talking about, not only did I list VMware's compatible products for you, I gave you a link for how you can manually disable the Vista security features to run the incompatible server version of VMware if you so choose. Looks like you'd just rather keep complaining though, and you say you're holding up your business over this?
