It's turned chilly again.
Violent storms struck the county's mid-section on Friday.
Bill Clinton, much to his wife's ahem, annoyance, brought up the fake Bosnia story again yesterday, and Obama's comments about rural PA voters drew criticism. His arrogance and high level of self-importance and self-regard are more and more apparent.

I am so happy Lysie was able to make it. Most know she has been severely under the weather & I am pretty sure was NOT 100%. She is as sweet in person as on the threads.
Molly & I have gotten together on various occasions the past years since I joined in 2003. It is always fun to “face to face” folks you have felt an affinity with here at the threads.

Oh! Yes, I remember your post. I need to find that movie. This part of the world can be so beautiful but so heartbreaking, too. There is so much strife here.

I am very glad you found it. I don’t have all the links updated. Give me about 24 hours for that. I have to go home to work it out on my home computer (which has the correct program) and then bring it back to school (which has the good internet connection). The joys of living in the jungle.

Haven’t gone out yet. Just Google Earthed your area & the places you have been in Indonesia.. fascinating. Found the community you are now in (the resolution on these NASA maps for your locale is NOT great but can get overview from about 35,000 feet)
That is marvelous large lake you are on. Do you do most of your diving at the coast at Jayopura or Wari?
do you do any diving at the big lake(is it damned or natural?) cant tell what it is called ..maybe Danau Sentani
oh also the USGS markings are on.. WOW.. that is impressive amount of earthquake “action”
Your Island is much larger than I realized. Nim’s as you will see someday hopefully is very small..
Danau Sentani is the name. Danau means “lake.” It is a huge lake. I usually go west for diving to Tanah Merah, aka Depapre. There is a bay and we usually end up diving off the east beaches of that bay. The “Outer Beach” is just outside the bay and slightly to the east. It is the second cove to the right toward Jayapura from the bay.
If you know what you are looking for on Google earth you can see the school, the training center and even my house. That runway you see is our airport. We think it’s a “hoot!”
The lake is natural. Many years ago (and I happened to think at the time of the Great Flood ~ I am a “young-age creation” person but will concede the possibility of other theories) there was an upheaval. This area had been connected to sea. But now Cyclops separates us from the ocean. There is a rumor of fresh-water sharks. I haven’t seen them nor talked with anyone who has. But there are crocodiles and they can chomp just as good. Also, that isn’t mud on the bottom of the lake. Don’t put your foot down! So, I do NOT go swimming in the lake. All my kids have, however, and think I’m just silly. OK.
If I want to go boogey boarding I go east through Abepura to a place called “Holtencamp”, aka “Black Sands.” It is on a part of Jayapura Bay which faces Jayapura and is a long curving penninsula.
This place is rich in WWII and we have to warn the kids to leave all found ordnance alone.
Have we been having earthquakes? I need to check. I haven’t felt any at all.
I am a young earth creationist also. My views on this are about as popular as my views on movies here at FR!
Thanks for the extra info. I probably will NOT go back tongiht (just had some left over pizza & dogs out) but will check. in next day or so. I need to think about a few hours of sleep. Must be up at 6 - so will try for 4 hours. I wanted to make a few calls to a few “ngiht workers” but my phone’s battery is about dead. I thought it had been plugged in but it was not.
The earthquakes marked are all past ones.. date, intensity etc - that is why there are so many. I guess it also depends on what options you chose for google earth. I love that program but just have scratched the surface on what it can do
Like I mentioned the resolution for your area is NOT good enough for the detail of your home etc. Over my house, it is quite clear.. some areas even in US are very poor. I can see the airport symbol as I recall but zooming in, it bcomes fuzzy, very fuzzy. I am pretty sure these are photo images, not satellite, (which would be clearer some days)
