An embarrassing problem

Ladies and gents,

I have a problem. I've posted here for years, and I've let it slide until now. I should have asked these questions before, but I was too lazy/indifferent to bother. Anyway, it's gotten to the point where I can't take it anymore. I can't post pictures. I can't italicize the text that I want to respond to. I can't post links. I can't post text in different colors or fonts. I've tried tinkering with the settings on Free Republic. I've tried tinkering with my web browser. Can someone out there give me an idiot-proof explaination of what I can do to remedy this problem. I'll be forever greatful. Heck, I may even send a small donation to FR in your name. Just...please...help me.

...allow for edits of posted comments. FR is pretty badly behind the times, here.

This is one of the best parts of FR. Once you write it, you have to defend it.

Try webmonkey.com and they have an html cheatsheet for most of the basic tags.
But what do I know?

If you run Firefox, you can get an extension called Xinha Here! that'll give you an HTML editor for the reply box. After installing it, you just right click in the reply box and select it in the menu.

I just downloaded it...very cool!

Try going to this site. It has the info on how to do things using the HTML format.

In addition I have been unable to get girls to date me.

I too know the pain of learning how to use HTML properly, but the above - no. Been married for 27 years and dating is easy when you're married.

“dating is easy when you’re married. “

I applaud you. Your spouse must be very open minded.

FR controls the horizontal, it controls the vertical and it controls your browser. Do not attempt to adjust anything. We control your transmission... and bring you the Conservative Outer Limits!

Did you get your questions answered? It's difficult to know, since I don't see any replies from you on this thread.

LOL. Not exactly what I meant. My spouse and I have no problem going out on dates. Open minded? About extra-marital dating? I don’t think I’ll share this discussion with her.

It is pretty slick, huh?

It doesn't work on sites that use [ ] brackets instead of these:  < and >  And it's sometimes a little irritating (if you're in a hurry) because you can't just copy and paste several paragraphs into it unless you copy from source code first.

For sites that use brackets, there's this extension. (I have it, yet admittedly have very rarely used it because most sites like that which I frequent has some sort of editor at the reply stage. It's small, though, and causes no conflicts with anything else).

With IE, click on the top bar: View>Source

For Firefox:  View>Page Source

With Firefox, you highlight the paragraphs you want to quote, then choose Source, and you right click anywhere on the highlighted area and copy. Then paste to the reply box.

The trick of highlighting doesn't work with IE 5.5 or 6. Don't know about version 7. Perhaps someone on ShadowAce's ping list can elaborate?

Unfortunately, I do not have my ping list with me here at work. I think I have IE7 (My company laptop is running Vista Ultimate SP1). There is no "Help" menu on IE to check the version number.

Given that--I opened up IE and tried it. It doesn't work.

You’re welcome, wintertime.

ShadowAce, all the more reason to use FF, eh? ;)

You are welcome.

Put a < p > after the pic for a line inbetween the pic and the text, so the text then goes under the pic.. < br >< br > also works and is, in essence, two carriage returns.
