This jolt was only a 3.8 and was under the Samos Dragstrip according to the drawing. But yes, the wave would go away from the epicenter. We have had several 7.+ near shore that generated s tidal surge and raised land in spots and caused some land sites to slump, mostly in the Eel river delta near Ferndale.

Think that was about what ours was down here. That’s two in my lifetime in south Texas that I have missed.

I’m sure there are dozens of local surfers praying they are in the water when the big one hits. They surf between the Jetties at the entrance to Humboldt Bay and the waves are wicked on the outgoing tide. They have claimed many a boat, large and small. I gotta run off and do some chores etc...
