It is one of the greatest films of Hollywood's golden era, a triple Oscar-winning classic with electrifyingly charismatic stars and a script bursting with memorable lines.
But now Madonna has stunned the movie industry with plans to remake Casablanca and this time set it in Iraq.
The singer, whose previous film career has been littered with critical and commercial turkeys, is also planning to take the lead role of Ilsa Lund, which originally made a star of Ingrid Bergman.

Given the fact that antiwar movies released during 2007 turned into major financial sinkholes, I'm not sure--especially given Madonna's history of doing really bad movies!--if she could pull this off. Americans don't WANT antiwar movies now.

I used to call her McDonna. But then I really started liking the restaurant.

Madonna’s “reputation as an actress” is already made. She stinks. As Dorothy Parker said about another actress, “She has an emotional range from ‘A’ to ‘B’.”.

Ah, from the woman who brought us “Shanghai Surprise” and “Desperately Seeking Susan.”

Madonna was actually good in Desperately Seeking Susan. Pity she never did another movie anywhere as good.

Pity she never did another movie anywhere as good. Vision Quest. Not that she had a big part in that though lol.

Funny how the status she has will never be enough. She still wants to be a serious actress.

Weird Al Yankovic did a much better remake of "Like A Virgin" than Madonna could ever do of Casablanca.
Do of?

“As Dorothy Parker said about another actress, She has an emotional range from A to B.”
Dorothy Parker said that about Katharine Hepburn. It was witty, but incorrect. In time Kate did OK as an actress.
When Dorothy was told that Calvin Coolidge had died, she replied “How can they tell?”.
As for Madonna wanting to remake “Casablanca”, it could be a sign of premature senility.

Casablanca is, hands down, my favorite movie. I will be banning this "remake," if made.

Casablance has never struck me as an anti-war film. Rick is anti-war at first but ends up sacrificing in order to fight.
Madonna’s mind is actually aging faster than the rest of her if she thinks she can take on Inrid Bergman’s part.

She’ll probably want to put a couple propellers on her breasts and play the part of that twin engine plane warming up in the final scene.

Top to bottom I think you would be hard pressed to find a film that was better cast than Casablanca. That alone is reason enough to never consider remaking it.
To: RayChuang88
She should redo a movie like Debbie’s Grandma Does Dallas.
