Garfield Minus Garfield

Who would have guessed that when you remove Garfield from the Garfield comic strips, the result is an even better comic about schizophrenia, bipolor disorder, and the empty desperation of modern life? Friends, meet Jon Arbuckle. Let’s laugh and learn with him on a journey deep into the tortured mind of an isolated young everyman as he fights a losing battle against loneliness in a quiet American suburb.

I’ll bite: what happened to Garfield and Odie? (I’m more of a “Get Fuzzy” fan myself, so I haven’t kept up with other strips.)

It’s just refreshing having him gone!

How weird. I love it!

Cat owners do talk to themselves when they think their cats are listening. ;)

I think taking stuff away from other stuff to create new stuff could be a unique, deconstructionist art form!

Or maybe not.

Looking into it, though. :-)

Well, it’s kinda been done before. Like when punk took away musicianship, or pop stars took a silly detail like ‘vocal ability’ out of the equation. ;)

Yeah, but they’re just changing captions and such. Removing things from existing things to create whole new things is where it’s at! :-)
