Thirsty Flowers?

There is a little magic, we’re calling forth today,
If you can stick around a bit, I know it’s on its way.
The flowers will be blooming, the birds will sing their song,
You’ll soon begin to notice that there’s oddly nothing wrong.

We only have good tidings here, no word of evil wrought.
No sound of armies clashing, or the battles that they fought.
We celebrate the peacefulness of Nature’s quiet land,
And we’ll feed some thirsty flowers if someone could lend a hand.

From Nothing
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. —Genesis 1:1

Nothing. Absolutely nothing. No light. No sky. No land. It’s incomprehensible to our finite thinking—the barren nothingness that existed before Genesis 1:1.

Then suddenly, through the work of the Almighty, God supplanted nothingness with “the heavens and the earth.” The divine hand reached through the void and produced a place, a world, a universe. Through the magnificent convergence of the workings of the Godhead—with the Son enacting the will of the Father as the Agent of creation, and the Holy Spirit as the hovering Presence—nothing became something. History began its long march toward today.

The first verse of Genesis provides us with sufficient concepts to contemplate for a lifetime. That introductory statement speaks of enough glory, enough majesty, enough awe to leave us speechless before God. Just as today we would have no life, no breath, no existence without His sustaining action, neither would we have the cosmos without His mighty act at the moment of creation.

In awe we wonder what went on before “the beginning.” With breathless praise we marvel at the words “God created the heavens and the earth.” We read—and we stand in adoration. “Nothing” has never been so fascinating!

I sing the mighty power of God
That made the mountains rise,
That spread the flowing seas abroad
And built the lofty skies.  —Watts

Nature is but a name for an effect whose cause is God.

Good morning, Mayor. Thanks for the coffee.

Today's scripture lesson tells us that
"Nature is but a name for an effect whose cause is God".

Happy Spring, Rus.

Ravished by all that to the eyes is fair,
Yet hungry for the joys that truly bless,
My soul can find no stair
To mount to heaven, save earth's loveliness.
For from the stars above
Descends a glorious light
That lifts our longing to their highest height
And bears the name of love.
Nor is there aught can move
A gentle heart, or purge or make it wise,
But beauty and the starlight of her eyes.

— Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475-1564)

NOTE: This poem was translated into English
by George Santayana (1863-1952).

My family lived in Germany for a year in the 60s as my husband’s job was there..My Mother came to visit and we went to Rome. She wore me out! I had to rest a day at the end of our trip..It was a wonderful experience.

It was a wonderful experience.

I bet it was! I have never been to Europe. It's on my list of things to do, but I don't see the trip happening any time soon. Too many other things on the same list.

Hey, Amy. I have been busy planning a week long trip back to Boston and side trip to West Virginia this summer! I talked to JK about it and he says it sounds great and to go ahead and arrange our itinerary. :-)

I am excited to finally be able to see the area where I was born and my ancestors settled. I will be visiting Salem and as many cemeteries as I can squeeze in to the trip and photographing headstones to go with my genealogy research. Also want to walk the Freedom Trail (or whatever it is called) in Boston. :-)

You and PrissyMissy want to meet us back there?? We will have a rental car with room for two more.

I travel by internet now but I appreciate the opportunities I had there to see things I might never have seen.

We took my young teenagers to London..At night all they wanted to do was order room service and watch English speaking TV while we went down to dinner. They attended the International school in Germany and my daughter could speak German much better than any of us could...She was the youngest.

Michelangelo began work on the colossal figure of David in 1501, and by 1504 the sculpture (standing at 4.34m/14 ft 3 in tall) was in place outside the Palazzo Vecchio. The choice of David was supposed to reflect the power and determination of Republican Florence and was under constant attack from supporters of the usurped Medicis. In the 19th century the statue was moved to the Accademia.

Happy Birthday Michelangelo!

My in-laws were born in southern Italy.
I had hoped to visit Italy but, we will never get there ....
there are too many places in this country that I am looking forward to visiting.
