Need Computer Help - a log in page won't load
vanity

Posted on 02/27/2008 4:04:29 AM PST by mtbopfuyn

My kids need to log into their school's website regularly but the log in page will not fully load. It says it's waiting on the school.

Of course the principal says the problem is at my end so before I go up there today I wanted to get some ideas from you all as to what I might check at home. The site worked, but verrrrry slowly last semester but we can't get past the log in page now.

Silly me can't find the cookie delete on Windows XP (98 was so much easier) so where do I find it? Perhaps that's the problem? I dunno.

Thanks for any help.

Post address of login page and I’ll see if it loads here.

Deleted cookies and history and everything. Still can’t get page to load. It works fine when using a school computer so they can’t see the problem. I’m trying to get another student to log onto his computer so we’ll see.

Any other ideas?

What is the address...have someone else try it.

Not a good idea if we all try it though....don't want to crash their system. If you Freepmail me the adress, I will try it.

Try to ping the website by going to start/run and type in cmd in the run window. This will bring you to the command screen. type in the word “ping” (no quotes) followed by the website name. You will see replies if it connects otherwise it will time out.

OK...I’m not sure what is personal about a URL...good luck.

Chances are if you can get to this site (FR), your internet is working fine. Probably a problem with the school’s server. My guess is that the principal is ignorant in IS issues and doesn’t want to give you any assistance.

The problem is simple...you are NOT logged in.

go to

http://www.getfirefox.com

download it. Install it. Run it, go to the same address.

If the problem persists, it’s the school.

If the website is trying to make your browser download something from a non-standard port, your firewall could be blocking the connection. In that case, it wouldn’t matter which browser is being used - the connection will block.

Also, find out if the web site is supposed to be secure. If so, it needs the “https” protocol specification in the URL, rather than “http”.

Thanks all. I’m still working on it. School still says it’s me but I’ve heard of others with the same problem so.... Am in the process of trying everyone’s suggestions.

Well, not only have you taken the small step for a man(or Woman), you've taken the giant leap for mankind. Firefox will run anything you want. It won't however let activeX trojans turn your computer into an internet zombie like internet exploder will.
