I like Maria, but her 100 dB screams makes watching her painful.
Yes, she is pretty, and NO I don't get any jollies out of watching her scream like a child with every baseline shot.
Seles did the same thing. She wasn't as pretty, so people came after her about it more. Sharapova gets away with far less criticism.
No, they shouldn't have banned the 9 year old, but can we have a little decorum in the game?

Good for the club. Grunting is rude. Tennis should not be rude.

"There's no rule against it, so they've made a rule against it." I don't have the Australian rule-book in front of me, but I would bet you dollars to donuts there is something in there about intentionally distracting your opponent. For instance, you are not allowed to yell when he is trying to serve. I would think this excessive grunting would fall under that rule.

I wish they would make Maria stop. What a great match it was in the semis when Ivanovic played Hantuchova. No screaming

Note here how the girl’s father, rather than taking criticism manfully, is making all kinds of excuses and saying that rather than requiring him to correct his daughter’s behavior, the club should accept her misbehavior.
This is a typical response from modern parents, and is absolutely corrosive to discipline or the maintenance of a civil environment, particularly in schools. Every parent starts with an assumption that their PLS (Precious Little Snowflake) can do no wrong, and that any discipline problem must fault of the school.

Seles did the same thing. She wasn't as prettySeles was 10 times the player Sharapova is, IMHO.

I can't believe this somehow became national news. I turned FNC on and this is what they have on.

Big difference between grunting a little and shrieking like a banshee.

Fact is, the grunting or shouting or shrieks help make more powerful shots.

There is only two occasions when it’s acceptable for a woman to be grunting or shrieking. Childbirth and what led up to it.

After one of Sharapova’s matches I find myself looking to see if any piles have accumulated on the baseline.

When I was younger, I was out golfing with my dad who was a pretty good player. I hit a bad shot and got really upset, yelling and stomping around. My dad said to me, "Son, you ain't good enough to get angry".
Same thing. This 9-year-old ain't good enough to yell and grunt. Maybe once she gets as good as Sharapova or Seles.

Good! Time to purge this grunting thing from the game.

I can sympathize with the little girl. I'm no longer invited to Jenga parties because I tend to grunt rather loudly when placing my blocks...

Maria Sharapova should be banned for grunting like Maria Sharapova—from all tournaments. Venus Williams is much worse. My wife and I always root against any “grunter”.
