Search titan Google and mobile phone carrier AT&T have been stunned by iPhone users usage patterns according to reports in recent days.
AppleInsider reports that Google has seen 50 times more search requests coming from Apple iPhones than any other mobile handset. They were so shocked, in fact, that they suspected that they had made an error tabulating their data.
According to the Financial Times Vic Gundotra, head of Google’s mobile operations, said that if other handset manufacturers follow in Apple’s footsteps and make Web access easier on their handsets the number of mobile searches could outpace fixed internet search “within the next several years.”
I know that my Google searches from my iPhone are high because Apple makes it so damned easy. The Google search bar pops up right below (and as large as) the URL field. Why guess at a URL when Google is right there? I know lots of people that don’t even try URLs any more, they just Google everything – even domain names!

In related news René Obermann, CEO of Deutsche Telekom AG, says iPhone is driving up average wireless data usage as much as 30 times higher than on other phones. The average Internet usage for an iPhone customer is more than 100 MBytes. Which is 30 times the use for their average contract-based consumer.
AT&T’s announcement of new business and international roaming plans and their replacement of T-Mobile as the Wifi provider at 7,000 U.S. company-owned Starbucks stores nationwide should only accelerate data usage in the months to come.
A quick peek at my last two months iPhone data usage shows that I used 110MB in February and 169MB in January. You’ve gotta love those domestic unlimited data plans!

I would reconsider if I were you. I am a Rush subscriber too and I wish I could download the podcasts on the fly, but I consider that a minor drawback when weighed against all the other great things the iPhone can do.
As you may know, Rush loves his iPhone and just bought a new 16GB model himself.
There’s no video on the iPhone. On mine since last summer I have 200mb in, mostly email and 49mb out.
So that’s a lot of email/photos going out.
Apple keeps making these stupid over priced products that no one will buy or use.. and they will fail !!

How did that happen since apple dosen’t have a phone that would work on the faster network ?
Did jobs lie to us that the reason they didn’t make the phone 3g is that the chipset uses too much board real estate and battery power ?
Or did jobs want them to expand an older slower network to accomodate his “cutting edge technology” device ?
No, they offered it to Verizon early, before design was finished - that’s what a lot of handset makers do.

Interesting article, but jobs DID say the reason it dosen’t have 3g ( even now ) is because of chipset size and power demands. It would not be cute enough. Was he telling the truth ?
This article makes the stumbling block to be Verizon not wanting to give as big a piece of the money pie to apple.

This is a bit off-topic but I have a question I hope someone can help me with. At work, I exported all of my bookmarks and sent them to the house as an e-mail attachment. When I opend it at the house, they were in Safari. Is there a way to import those bookmarks into Internet Explorer from Safari? It would sure save a ton of time copying them one by one from Safari to IE. Eventually, I want to import them into my iPhone. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
One question... When was the last time you actually used a Mac? Not played with one at a store or just moved the mouse pointer around the screen but used one?
I assume you're on a PC. Safari will export them as an HTML file - open the HTML file in Internet Explorer. If IE doesn't import this format, you might have to use Firefox as an intermediary.

10 MINUTES WITH A CELL PHONE COULD TRIGGER CANCER
A new study published by New Scientists states that the use of mobile phones for a long duration could eventually cause cancer.
The study which was conducted by Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel revealed that using the mobile phone for a meager five minutes could generate cell growth or division through particular pathways that are often used by cancer only.
Prof Rony Seger from the Weizmann Institute along with his colleagues exposed rat and human cells to electromagnetic radiation of 875 megahertz, which is similar to that emitted by cell phones, but at only about one tenth of the power.
Just within five minutes of exposure to the radiation ended up in the generation of extra-cellular signal-regulated kinases (ERK1/2) - natural chemicals that stimulate cell division and growth.
Since the power is low, thereby not being able to produce considerable amount of heat to affect the cells or tissue, the effect was believed to come from the radiation itself, as per the researchers.
Prof Seger stated, “The real significance of our findings is that cells are not inert to non-thermal mobile phone radiation. We used radiation power levels that were around one tenth of those produced by a normal mobile. The changes we observed were clearly not caused by heating.”
The pathways involving extracellular signal-regulated kinases ERK1/2 even though they exist naturally are often used by cancer. ERK1/2 is a naturally occurring chemical that stimulates cell division and growth. Even though activation of these pathways does not always lead to the development of cancer, the effect of the cell phone radiation may perhaps in the long run increase the risk.
In that case one wonders how are there yet so many people on the face of this earth. If such less mobile phone talking can lead to so much damage, then perhaps the earth should be a much emptier place.
I suppose we will see when all the iphone users develop cancers in their fingers from all the web surfing they are doing ....
Fingers don’t appear to be as sensitive to such as brains do.

Since the cells they studied were presumably floating in a dish, just what type of electrical activity was taking place between them ?
I don’t recall. Been a while since I read the article.
One of my profs was active in brain research, however. And that was a long time ago. But that’s where I got a lot of my awareness for issues of the brain’s . . . tenderness.
And I have vague memories of much more recent articles about brains.
IIRC, Burt Rutan doesn’t have any electrical anything near his bed—even wiring in the walls. I guess he has a remote for a TV that’s viewed from a shielded cavity onto a mirror.
