My first posting - think I've done everything right but if not, feel free to delete, move, whatever's appropriate.
Came across this site of a firm making 20mm rifles amongst others and found that here in the UK, they're still legal. OK,OK, it would entail me moving house because the ranges at which I could shoot one are 100miles+ away and I would have to spend a lot of my savings and I'm currently in between jobs, so not currently feasible. But the prospect of owning one did cross my mind...and they are tempting...
Anyone own one of these/similar? What are they like to own/shoot?
20mm Lahti Anti-Tank Rifle. Not mine, but I have shot it.
Is that the South African weapon? The one chambered for 20mm Mauser?
Yeah, it’s a little bit of a drag to load it, but the rewards far outweigh any “discomforts”.
I got mine off Amazon.com.
Well, they are talking about cloning Tyrannosaurus rex. Probably about the right weapon.
To paraphrase Crocodile dundee, “Now, that’s a gun”.
.458 win mag was alot more manageable than i thought it would be- it’s alot easier to take than .45-90.
“I prefer newer sexier cannon.”
TBH in the UK I’m told, there’s no limit on calibre; you would have to ensure you were using solid shot (no HE) but apart from that, provided you had the land etc (basically very rich), a modern artillery piece would be legal to own which I understand is the situation in the US. For example, if you wanted a minigun, a six figure sum would not be unrealistic.
there it is! i knew someone had a pic of a lahti they’d shot :)

yeah, but its not really that exotic is it?
That was great! Only had time for 3 rounds. 11,000 out of 14 shots!! I have no idea if that is good but great fun.
nope, IMO neither one was. the .458 was a new ruger, the 45-90 was a recent reproduction sharps shiloh- altho they are exotic enough to make you really wince at ammo prices.

Then again, the ammo price kind of evens itself out by how many you can actually fire. When I had my 454 Casull, the factory ammo was $114 (in 1992), then again, a box (50 rounds) was more than enough...
i’m a glutton for punishment. 20 rounds of each that day, and i was going, “that’s all the ammo you brought? ok, i’ll shoot the little stuff, gimme the .45-70”
“Sorry, annything over 50 Browning is under the NFA of 1934”
That’s just a technicality. I’m thinking wildcat..necked down...we’ll call it the “5Aught-2Aught Varmit Killer”
Shoulders ony get sore after the practice range. When you’re shooting at *live* targets, you don’t feel a thing.
I had an attack of type-lock.
Was going to do .58 & .69 but typed .59 .
Gotta love buck ‘n ball.
Sod Poodles here play games. We took a barrett 82A1M out last time and hit the mounds they were peeking at us from ..........all fun !
Till Eaker gets off his butt and builds a bowling ball mortar it’s all we have !!
