Too bad you can’t run it on affordable hardware. The cost of a MAC is almost double that of an equivalently endowed PC.

I have 11 children, 9 of whom are still at home. We have 7 PCs and three laptops.

The solution?

Linux!

Linux will run on just about anything.

If you like pretty, try Linux Mint.

All the pretty of Vista without the baggage!

IMHO, one the fundamentals of word processing, spreadsheets, relational databases, gaming, graphics, then networking, and internet connectivity, and user interface issues ahve been mastered, the financial wave powering the computer industry has hit the beach.

There will now be continuing market for maintenance of those basics, with a few utilities added here and there, but the next big advance, IMHO, isn’t as readily apparant. Maybe neurological interfacing, but we start stepping into dangerous uncharted waters in that region which might lead to a whirlpool of technology, than a helpful wave of power.

I appreciate that information.

I'm not a software partisan- I really don't care if my boxes are run by the Wizards of Renton, the Gnomes of Zurich, or DOS 3.3, I just want them to do certain things without hassle-- but as my Win2000 gets longer in the tooth, and I keep hearing mostly bad things about Vista, I'm considering Linux.

Like you, we have a number of machines, of varying age & hardware, and it would be nice to keep them set up along similar lines.

Yeah. But my Imac looks cool on my desk and the monitor is bigger than my television.

How does Linux Mint compare to Kubuntu (I know Mint is derived from Ubuntu)?

Swordmaker will be here shortly to debunk that statement. Be prepared to defend your assertion.
