Warning graphic pictures of animals killed by wolves. Here is the truth with what living with wolves is really like. If you have a weak stomach don't view some very brutal pictures.

"I watched a presentation by a ranger at Yellowstone and he explained how populations would explode out of control in an uncontrollable chain reaction if wolves were removed from the ecosystem"
We need to stop the hiring of effeminate weirdos for jobs in parks.
Bears and wolves are protected and bred in various parts of the West now, but the deer are still multiplying like roaches, getting sick and too concentrated around uncleared shoulders of roads. The bear are overlapping three or four to a range and often breaking into houses.
Such predators are pests. They often kill, even after overpopulating, for the same reason that dogs kill chickens--for play, and because their instincts direct them to do so. We should take them into gated suburban communities and give animal preference freaks a taste of their own medicine. But after they kill a few more children in agricultural areas, residents will probably become angry enough to bait and exterminate them.

You stated that you were an expert WHEN YOU STATED FACTS THAT WERE FALSE. WOLVES DO KILL FOR SPORT. Whoever told you that is a freaking liar. To start off with, read Reardon’s book on Glaser and his lifelong study and observation of Wolves and then open your mouth. He had personally witnessed tens of thousands of instances when wolves would chase Caribou and grab their tongues as they panted and rip them out for fun. They did not eat the tongues. They also performed running evisceration's even more times than they went after tongues by slashing open the belly of running Caribou and Moose and letting the entrails drag until the animals tripped over them. They ate less than 3% of what they killed in an unchecked environment. Maybe you don’t think they kill for a basketball or a football or something, were these the sports that you were referring to?!?!

There are moose and coyotes in New York? Okkk...May I, as a former resident of that beautiful state, relate to you a true story? It is one that a friend of mine told me over lunch one day in the early spring of 1995. We were at my house in Potsdam in the north country area and this happened to her in Norfolk just a few days previous.
My friend was gathering some roots and spring time herbs when nature called. She made for an isolated spot in the bushes to rid her bladder of her morning coffee. She heard some rustling to her left. Still squatting, she turned and looked up.
There, not more than 3 ft. in front of her was the nose of a young moose sniffing at her through the brush. My friend was so astonished as the sight, all she did was heard herself saying, "moose."
It was about that same year that an Amish family in the area had to pay a $1000 fine because their teenage son had accidentally shot a moose while deer hunting.
Now, those are both true stories of moose in NYS. You don't know me and you don't have to believe me but I, for my part, have no reason to lie to you. Google easily provides links to other stories. Here's just one such link that includes pictures: Adirondack Moose Central
As for wolves, I have my own views on their place in the eco-system and don't care to get into that part of this thread. (even though it is the main topic here, sorry y'all) These types of threads usually devolve, as this one has, into somewhat of a pissing contest with neither side convincing the other of their POV.
But as to coyotes in my home state, since I am not sure of the particular legality issues surrounding the shooting of a coyote that wanders too near your chicken coop, I'll not tell you any stories of a person I may or may not be related to who lives in the scenic region of lower Canandaigua Lake. I will instead urge you (along with more than one other poster here) to avail yourself of the wonderful resources at your fingertips and verify your assertions before posting.

Please see post #84. There is no “sort of” when it comes to killing for “sport”. Sport is really just laymen’s word for unforced instinct.

Where did I write "I am an expert"?
Whoever told you that is a freaking liar.
Alright, alright. I'm sorry. I assumed that coming from a ranger he would know what he was talking about. I wasn't trying to pretend to be a know it all, just passing on what I heard from someone who seemed reputable. I'll take your word, as you have done much research. I am sorry for wasting your time on this thread.

See #77. I incorrectly had it in my head that the original poster was talking about NY City, instead of upstate NY like he meant.

Some think it is the Liberals trying to reduce hunting by using the wolves to depopulate prey species like Elk and Deer, so they cant be hunted anymore
I said I am not against hunting wolves in #55. They should be hunted, they have to be kept in check too. But since it didn't occur to me to metion that in my first post, everyone thinks I'm some kind of liberal wacko.

See that’s where I went wrong...I assumed the guy was reputable since he was a pak ranger who claimed to have studied wolves and all, and seemed like he knew what he was talking about. Seems I was incorrect. Looks like I need to start double checking these things.

I was basing most of my stuff from a park ranger who claimed to have studied wolves, and I assumed he was reputable since he seemed to know what he was saying. As the real experts have shown me, I was incorrect, and the guy was not really viable. Sorry for the erroneous info.

Thanks for the welcome.
Gee you know what the 22-250 is for. :-)
I did read your post very interesting. I would just add the plan to slow down hunting is working. Montana in the section above Yellowstone reduce there cow elk tags from 1100 to 100. In Michigan over 100,000 deer hunters have quit because of lack of deer in U.P. where the wolves are.
I can’t remember for sure but I believe one wolf pack killed 56 sheep in one night. I can see what you are saying about the instinct. The sheep panic some die. The other sheep smeell the blood panic more the wolves are on instinct killing. Good post made me think more how to phrase things in the future.

If I am not wrong, the coyote’s only predator, is the wolfe.
And, IIRC, a coyote will never kill another coyote. Never. A wolf will kill it’s mother (or any other wolf) for food.
Coyotes are taking over the deserts of Arizona. Wolves are gone, and coyotes protect each other.
Watch your little furry kids - coyotes are getting more brave every day.
