Warning graphic pictures of animals killed by wolves. Here is the truth with what living with wolves is really like. If you have a weak stomach don't view some very brutal pictures.
That was frikking wild! Man, talk about two creatures just going at it, full tilt, non-stop.
I used to wrestle, and I still think that it was most difficult sport there was if you were matched evenly against an opponent. Just the constant tension trying to find and exploit the smallest opening or weakness by your opponent as they did the same to you. It was bloody damned exhausting.
I read a book recently called “Lost in My Own Backyard: A Walk in Yellowstone National Park”.
The author described how the Coyote population just went haywire as the wolves became nearly extinct (or did in that area before they were reintroduced)
When the wolves came back, they completely decimated the Coyote population. The biggest coyotes who had been (literally in this case) the top dog alpha male kind of animals, tried to stand up to the wolves and were destroyed.
He described a scene one day as he walked down a trail, where an entire pack of coyotes came running out of the woods that ran along the top of a ridge that came down at about 70 degrees to his trail ahead of him.
The coyotes flew out of the woods and literally tumbled and somersaulted down this huge incline in total panic.
At the top, a large gray wolf appeared out of the woods and calmly walked slowly over to the edge and looked over at the tumbling coyotes.
Excellent video - glad to see that the wolf came away with so little battle damage. Obviously my Siberians are not half as rough as the real deal, but I have seen them nail pretty good sized woodchucks, 18 pounds or so, with just a little flick of the head. So they have pretty good moves.
Wow I was being nice in my reply. Was not calling people names what is up with that?
Ok first off you are wrong about New York the only thing missing is bullafo and elk. Everything else you listed and more lives in New York state in fact the do gooders are trying to put the wolves in the state.
You sound like a young hothead. Yes they are fake with over 60,000 wolves in North America there are more important animals that are truely endangered that should be help not the fake ones like wolves.
Yes wolves slaughter deer for the fun of it a pack killed 22 deer in one night in MN only eating a few bites out of each one. Go to www.saveourelk.com for the truth. Deal with that.
Yes the children attack in Canada were sitting on the beach I guess the wolves owned the beach now? Facts get in the way of emotions. Calm down stop calling people names.

Personally, I thought your response to G8 Diplomat was the one that escalated the tension. Just my opinion.
You haven’t been here at FR very long. G8 has been here a little while, and I haven’t particularly noticed him going after people.
Chill out a bit until you learn the ropes around here. Nothing personal, just my opinion.
Since you an expert I am sure you know who Dave Mech is. He study the Wolves 1975 in MN in an area no human hunters could get to. The wolves completely wipe out the deer in that area. The study was done in 1975. In 2002 Range magazine did an interview with him and he said Oh yes that is true and not only that but they still had not recovered. 27 years later the deer still had not recovered. So are you saying Dave Mech is lying? He also said he saw the wolves in Alaska completely wipe out snowshoe hares and Musk Ox in the area he was studying them.
We have our own two legged predators who keep the populations of game animals in check, we don't need wolves, and hunters don't slaughter ranchers cows indiscriminately(except for a few criminal types now and then, but nothing like wolves do). Wolves have no "right" to kill me or any other human. Just because it is their nature to kill doesn't mean we have to let them do it or forgive them for it. Your comment is full of liberal BS and shows your ignorance.
You may be a zoology "major" but that hardly qualifies you as an expert. Especially since your are citing Yellow Stone rangers as your evidence!
Wolves kill, whether for sport or food, and they kill anything they can, including children. Why didn't you cite the old saw that peta types always use? "There have been no documented cases of wolves attacking humans(and they always forget to add, "on the north american continent")" Wolves attack humans, plenty of evidence to back it up. As I said, they may have the right to food, but I have the right to not let them eat me or mine.
If wolf populations are decimated, coyote populations explode, because wolves eat coyotes. So then the coyotes will take the place of wolves as top predators and keep the elk and deer population in check, which is why they haven’t exploded out of control in New York. You have to take time to think about how ecosystems work, not just assume that adding wolves is bad and removing them is good.
A friend sent me a youtube video the other day that may be the same one.
It was titled “Michigan Wolves”...Smoke a pack a day!
Then it had bullet holes all over the sign.
The wolves are hated by the Michigan residents that have to live around them.
And I never said wolves never killed children. If they’re hungry, they’ll go after them. Are we going to eliminate everything that can possibly cause the unfortunate death of someone? We’d have nothing left.
After some very poor press questioning if they were one of the poorest NBA teams which criticisms are surely warranted, they almost defeated Boston and they should have, they've beaten the Suns and it looks like the Clippers are victims tonight.
Good thread.
I like to say that when I’m walking through the woods and see littl animal courts in session then I’ll talk about “animal rights”.
*there
Personally, I have no problem historically where humans eradicated them in various areas. If it is me or them...it is going to be them.
My brother and I were discussing a story about a guy poaching in a Bangladesh wildlife preserve was pulled up and out of a boat BY HIS HEAD in pitch black darkness by a large tiger...without even rocking the boat.
The other poachers heard a soft splash, turned on a flashlight and saw the Tiger dragging the guy by his head along the shore.
My brother wondered what it would be like to be hunted by tigers with WiNGS, and we paused for a second, looked and each other and said nearly simultaneously: “Naaaah. They’d be extinct.”
Same way wolves were to peasants back in the woods in medieval England or Europe.
