Shoplifting is all in the family for one California clan, police say.
A grandmother, her daughter and some of her grandchildren tried to steal $900 worth of merchandise from a Target store in Lodi, 35 miles south of Sacramento, police Officer Misty Smith said.
The family's alleged shoplifting spree earlier this week was captured by surveillance video, which police say showed them cutting open boxes and hiding MP3 players, digital cameras, DVDs, jewelry and sports equipment in purses, bags and a backpack.
An 8-year-old and a 5-year-old were among the family members detained.
"The 5-year-old actually had a pack of gum. A small item but we could see where her life was heading because she thinks more than likely this is a normal way of life, this is what you do," said Dale Eubanks of the Lodi police.
Linda Robinson, 59, and her 36-year-old daughter, Anna Fernandez, were charged Wednesday with burglary, grand theft, vandalism and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. *** Fernandez's teenage sons, 17 and 14, were arrested on suspicion of grand theft and will face charges in juvenille court, authorities said. Another teen not related to the family also was arrested.
The two children were released to relatives and will not face charges.
It was not immediately clear if the family had a lawyer.

Me either, full disclosure - a large portion of my family income comes from Wal-Mart.
Basically I bought 2 DVDs. Only one made it into the bag. My truck was parked right out front. There is no way it dropped from my bag from the front of the store to my truck. I went back into the store to customer service. They said they reviewed the security tape and it showed the cashier putting the DVD in my bag, which is pure BS. I should have asked to see the tape, but the DVD was only $13, so I chose to just never shop there again. It’s not worth the effort to pursue it futher.
I understand your feelings about Target because of the reason you gave. I don’t have any personal stories to tell about Target because I have never shopped there.
Best Buy is a whole different story though. I will never buy anything from them again. I have my reasons that I won’t go into now. Casey’s General Stores is another place that will never get any of my business. I think we all probably have a list of such places.
Target doesn’t understand the concept of customer service. Wal-Mart tends to understand. Wal-Mart will replace things even if you don’t have a receipt. Target called me a liar and lost my business forever. Wal-Mart probably loses alot of money on fraudulent returns, but I think loyalty will make you more money than penny pinching and pissing off your customers by assuming they’re criminals. I worked at Wal-Mart one summer and they pretty much treat their employees like crap from my experience, but their customer service has always been good.
That was my thought when I first saw the story. Of course they aren't really Irish per se. They have all sorts of ethnicities.
LOL, that is great!!
“Working retail caught a shoplifting family.”
Been there, done that too. Only after the 2nd time, we banned them from entering the store.
