Parents Sue Hospital After Stillborn Baby's Body Sent to Cleaners

FORT WORTH, Texas — A couple are suing a hospital after their stillborn baby's body was sent with dirty laundry to the cleaners.

The Huguley Memorial Medical Center of Fort Worth staff took 19 hours to find the missing body, which was unpreserved and by then had been crushed and disfigured, according to the lawsuit filed Tuesday.

Kourtney McGee of Cleburne went to Huguley in July because she was bleeding in her second trimester, then gave birth to Jacob Dwayne Robinson. Staff told McGee and Milburn "Pete" Robinson of Alvarado, the baby's father, that the body would be taken the morgue.

But when the funeral director arrived, he was told the body could not be found. The baby's body was not refrigerated when it got to the morgue but instead was sent to a commercial cleaner with the laundry, according to the suit.

The lawsuit contends Huguley Memorial Medical Center breached its duty to care for, handle, maintain and/or prepare for burial. The lawsuit alleges negligence, which is the failure to extend ordinary care, and gross negligence, which shows either reckless conduct or conscious disregard for the family's rights.

Since this happened in July and there is already a lawsuit on file, I am assuming that a lawyer is already involved.

Lawsuits are not the answer to everything. Anytime humans are involved in something there will be unintentional mistakes.

In this case, I don’t blame them.

It’s not like they stupidly placed a cup of scalding hot coffee between their legs.

There are times and places for lawsuits and this qualifies.

But consider:

Abortion mills send similar babies to garbage dumps every day.

This baby going to the laundry was an accident.

Soooo, if you were the mother in this tragic situation, you're telling us that you would just tell the hospital not to worry about it, that "accidents do happen", and to just please send a picture of your dead child's disfigured face for that baby book you got at your shower?

Uh uh, I don't think so.

Hey!
The hospital personnel obviously are so accustomed to disrespecting aborted fetuses that it was S.O.P. to disrespect this stillborn child’s body.

Habits run deep. And what was the name of the “Medical Center”? Heugley? Has a ring to it, doesn’t it? Pardon my outraged sarcasm.

The hospital’s lawyer says the hospital did notthin wrong.

I would call sending a baby’s body to the dry cleaners is very wrong.

Good luck to this couple.

Abortion mills send similar babies

Are you serious?

Comparing an unwanted fetus to the tragedy of a still born baby? BTW, this disposed of fetus was given a name:

"she was bleeding in her second trimester, then gave birth to Jacob Dwayne Robinson"

Perhaps we should accompany a body and not let morons take care of it for us.

So I guess a picture of her bank statement with a six-figure balance will make that baby book look better, right?

IMHO, lawsuits are for punishing people and organizations for things that they do knowingly or recklessly. If baby bodies were regularly being sent to the cleaners, there would be a reason for the hospital to pay. If someone who works for the hospital did this to cause the parents mental pain, the hospital needs to pay.

The Plaintiffs in this case are apparently looking for astronomical amounts, or the hospital's insurance company's lawyers would have settled this by now. They are looking to never work in their life because of a very unfortunate incident.

sorry don’t know how this could have happened unless the baby was tossed in the laundry bin. they should sue and...use the money to fight abortion.

I agree, but it illustrates the ludicrous fantasy we have written into law. Had she gone to an abortion clinic, vice a hospital this would be a non-story.

Either the child was human deserving of respect even in death, or it was a nonhuman tissue mass. It cannot logically depend upon the state of mind of the mother.

Are you serious?

Sorry. I guess my point is that abortion destroys a human life yet - who cares? It's just a glob of tissues.

Yet a miscarriage breaks the hearts of loving caring parents.

The careless manner in which the body of a stillborn child was disposed of certainly qualifies as reckless.

Thanks for pointing that out.
