The things I could say to the Hunter detractors will give the Mods and JimRob massive heart attacks. But I wont do that.
I do hope youre all happy now. You, along with the others and the lame-stream media, have succeeded in forcing Hunter to drop out. After him, there isnt any other Conservative in the race. No, Thompson doesnt come close as hes supported amnesty, campaign-finance reform and voted to give China permanent MFN status. You all have succeeded in forcing our absolute best chance of turning this country around to drop out. The one man who wont sell this country out to Cuba, Venezuela, China, Russia, North Korea, or any of our enemies in the Middle East. The one man who WILL get the border fence built in six months; Im willing to travel south to provide security in any capacity to ensure the fence is built. The only guy who would prevent more American jobs from being shipped overseas.
No, Im not supporting anybody else for the Presidency. I intend to write him in for the Primary and General in CT. Weve already lost our only chance to save this country.
Everybody else is just unacceptable.
Decided to make this a thread.
I hope you Hunter supporters are happy.
You spent the last several months trashing Fred Thompson in particular, and look at what it has resulted in.
Way to go.
Don’t let the door hit you in the ass, Hunterites.
Pull yourself together ....
If you want to blame anyone, blame his idiot campaign manager.
Hunter’s biggest problem was name recognition. Talk to most people about him and you get “Hunter who?” You can’t even say “He’s the guy that did x,” since thanks to the media nothing he’s done has ever registered on the general consciousness.
He (or his campaign manager, more likely) didn’t have or didn’t spend the money to get over that problem. He should have been spending money in a national campaign from the day he declared in 2007. He didn’t (and yes, I sent him $250).
That’s why he’s had to bail out.
I guess the country will just have to go four years without a president, then.
Well, then, there’s the problem.
Whoever was running that campaign assumed that people were a lot more well informed than they really were, and that people already knew who Duncan Hunter was.
How bad is it? When shown a board containing all of the major candidates in no particular order, even local Texas conservatives couldn’t pick the guy out.
In fact, they tended to select Bill Richardson, D-NM Gov as the face of Duncan Hunter.
Remember all the excitement surrounding his bid for the candidacy? All the uproar when he finally entered?
What happened to it?
This isn’t about Fred, it is about your idea that WE , who support another candidate, are to blame for the failures of Duncan’s management.
His campaign pissed it away by not leveraging it into a campaign to get his name and face out there via volunteers.
Ron Paul managed to do it. Duncan Hunter didn’t.
Tough times never last, tough people do.
And though I’m disappointed too, let’s focus on taking back the GOP, not abandoning it to the hijackers.

The unappeasables who were supporting Hunter chipped away at it ever so slowly at places like FR.
Your guy exits just as Fred’s campaign hits a major bump due to him never becoming the consensus conservative, thanks in large part by the unappeasable Hunterites taking their constant pot-shots at Fred here on FR and elsewhere.
So what are you guys going to do now?
Are you going to go to Fred, or have you all suddenly found religion on the who “he can’t win the nomination” argument?
Or are you going to rally around Mike Huckabee, as I suspect?
Powder..Patch..Ball FIRE!
My first choice.....
Unfortunately many voters don’t do any real research and haven’t a clue as to what’s going on; they just get their info from the biased sound bytes in the media.
Maybe he will work on building up some name recognition over the next 4 years and try again in 2012 — if we haven’t become the North American Union by then, which is a distinct possibility.

They have taken control of the GOP and now are laughing in the conservatives face. Yea HA HA
John McCain, Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee... This is a bad time in America. The Fat Lady has sung.
My guess is that they’re mostly going to sit this one out and grouse about “If Duncan Hunter were X, then Y” for the next four years.
Put the bottle down and think a minute. Congress is a club and Hunter can get confirmed to whatever post he’s nominated for. I doubt Hillary would nominate him for anything but many of the (R)s might. Just say no to Huck and see how the cards play.
What are like, 14 years old?
