I hope Amanda wins it all. She has such a powerful voice and such a presence.
More than any of the other contestants, she is just regular folk (B & W hair notwithstanding) and doesn't give a crap what people think of her. She's got Moxie and that's always refreshing.
I picked Taylor Hicks to win when I first saw him perform and I'm picking Amanda this time. I'm probably wrong...but I don't think so. Just a feeling.

Ok, will you PLEASE do that recap every week?? :-) That was hysterical! I’ve not even gotten to see the show yet and you cracked me up!

Id go with Sgt. Peppers then you'd be going home.
Absolutely the second worst song ever recorded by the Beatles; right behind "Yellow Submarine".

Well, since I took my boy to see Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban’s concert last night (IT WAS GREAT!), I missed Beatles night.
Sorry that David H is going - his version of Papa Was a Rolling Stone was a grand slam.
To: silent_jonny
Celebrate Me Home was done by Kenny Loggins back in the late 70s. That’s a nice song, originally about going home for the holidays.
To: bootless
Carrie and Keith were just in KC - how was the concert? Where was it?
I like David’s voice and wish he could have stayed a bit longer.

I love Amanda too, but it seems that Idol doesn’t favor rocker types. I hope I am wrong.

The concert was great! Carrie played for an hour, then the roadies reset the stage. Keith played for over two hours. After the encores, half the arena was gone, but he kept going, more like a private concert. It wasn’t “showy” - it was really cool.
He worked hard! Sweat-soaked chair, no breaks. It was awesome. I’ll post more tomorrow.

Whew! My girl Syesha (yeah, she's already got a fiancé, big whoop) survives. C'mon Syesha, OWN the song next week. Show 'em what you're made of. My other girl Brooke (yeah, I know, she's already married, story of my life yada yada) seems to be in a good position in this competition.
David Hernandez had rebounded in the earlier rounds, now finds himself back in peril (he might survive if he has Danjayas gay vote). Kristy Lee has been perpetually on the ropes, and tonight didnt help whatsoever.
And it was Hernandez to get the ax. T'was a shame. He used to be in my Top 5 of the guys, particularly on his performance of "Papa Was A Rolling Stone" (the best performance of that night), but between exposure of his male stripping days to his poor performance Tuesday finally did him in.
Kristy Lee's performance Wednesday was much better than Tuesday's.... could still simplify and slow down the arrangement a bit. I like her personally (her looks don't hurt either), but she's been on the edge of elimination for too long and don't know how much longer she'll last.

Okay, finishing up my review and rankings...
- Michael - Not much to say... it was kind of a dull, "safe" choice, which ordinarily would have been bad news, but on a night where there were so many train-wrecks, good enough. B-
- Kristy Lee - There were so many problems here, it's hard to know where to start... well, that's not entirely true, she failed miserably in the most important job: song selection. Then, the arrangement was terrible (way too fast!) and she failed to meet the band's energy level and kept looking like she was racing to keep up. D
- David A. - I was expecting more of a train wreck from the comments than I actually saw, but this was a whole lot of not good anyway. Forgetting words, composure breaks, and continuing bad habits (the lip-licking and the audible breath intakes are starting to get really annoying) aside, I don't think this would have been particularly good even if he did it "right". D
Rankings for the night:
- Chikeze
- David C.
- Brooke
- Carly
- Michael
- Jason
- David H.
- Amanda
- Syesha
- Remiele
- David A.
- Kristy Lee
Overall Rankings After Week #1:
- Brooke White (+1) - Consistency and good song selection continues to pay off
- David Archuleta (-1) - Voters will forgive forgetting the words once, but he's rapidly running out of second chances
- David Cook (+2) - Moving from dark horse to front runner; I could really see a Brooke/Cook finale
- Michael Johns (n/c) - Is he waiting to make a move, or is this the best he can do?
- Carly Smithson (+1) - Evil ice queen or no, she has the power of pimpin' from the judges, and a solid voice
- Ramiele Malubay (-3) - Some of Danny Noriega's suck seems to have washed off onto her
- Chikeze Eze (+3) - Moved up from the elimination tier to solid second tier with a great performance
- Jason Castro (-1) - Just not feelin' it, dude
David Hernandez (-1) - Back to working the pole, if you know what I mean - Syesha Mercado (-1) - Just a whole lot of dull in a pretty package
- Amanda Overmyer (+1) - I still think she's a short-lived novelty
- Kristy Lee Cook (-1) - Falling below Amanda in my rankings tells you something. Song selection must get better and she needs to sync better with the band. A lot better

She's got Moxie and that's always refreshing.Moxie! So under used in this day and age, but I do agree. "Ya got moxie, kid!" (in 1940's staccato)

No way is Amanda even coming close. She is nice, but still just a one trick pony. Her Janis Joplin sound has grown old.
