Another primary week....a critical week for the R candidates, particularly Mitt Romney.

Mr. Ed Rollins may be out....The Prowler
I have to go out in the snowy weather, and will be back in awhile.
Thanks for the links, Molly! I just keep wondering: what Republicans are REALLY voting for Huckabee or McCain? This has to be one of those “contrived-poll” things, like when the NYT “finds” an alleged Republican voter who is really a Democratic voter/donor trashing President Bush for democracy in ME/social security reform/ESCR/whatever.
I’ve talked with all kinds of pubbie voters in the last few weeks and not a single one of them was a fan of Huck OR McCain. To the contrary, the Dems I’ve talked to are simply, positively gleeful about a HuckHill or HuckObama matchup, or McCain against anybody, because they are completely certain the Dems would win. It’s all about identity politics for the Dems, and they love the idea of being able to cariacaturize (sp?) the GOP as naive (slack-jawed), closed-minded “Christianists” who are bigoted to big blocks of American voters, or being able to paint the GOP with McCain’s angry brush, and have the “maverick” AGAIN betray the principles of party to maintain his collegiality with traitorous Dems for media favor.
Unfortunately, the media discouragement campaign of pubbies seems to be working. By the time the primaries roll around to most of America, we will likely have the two LEAST conservative candidates in the field as the standard bearers of our party.
Sigh. Sometimes I feel like the GOP is the party of the circular firing squad.
Good morning to all. It is overcast and snowing in Hoosierland.
Thanks for keeping this thread going Molly and Lysie.
I have been down with a sinus infection and I am just starting to feel normal.....sure hope it continues. I have been ill for weeks.
Molly, I did see a few minutes of the “new” Lonesome Dove, but not enough to give a review. Sorry.
Hi always.
I never pay attention to the polls but guess lots of folks do.
I did get a request to send out my take on the coming election and who I liked from some family and friends in Florida......right now I have Fred as my first choice. Then Mitt. Then McCain.
JMHO
I like Fred, Mitt, and the one who should not be named here. It is frustrating to think that in NH and Michigan, it is independents, not Republicans, who are the ones deciding who our Republican nominee will be.
I think Huckabee got his bounce to the top tier with Iowa, so that the rest of us got a hard look at this seemingly affable candidate and his cringe-worthy record. Most of us didn’t like what we saw, which is why his standing in the polls is perplexing to me, unless (donning tinfoil hat) they are not polling Republicans, but the fake Republicans I referred to earlier.
Did anyone watch the latest Lonesome Dove installment on CBS last night?
Sorry. I didn't, but on a stormy day I would imagine it would be worth watching.
You are welcome, NB. You were missed. I was hoping you were having fun. As I can see..you weren’t. Get better soon.
Wow! again, I didn't watch it but taped the other Lonesome Dove movies, so maybe I'll watch the next installment. There is one, right?
I watched the first of the two Sarah Connor premier's.last night because I heard it was going to be great. And it was. I'm a sci-fi fan, so this was right up my alley.
I watched the Terminator episodes, too, and in some ways it’s better than the movies, in some ways it’s too contrived...like, they had that conveniently-placed time-travel machine in the bank and then went forward in time to 2007 — but how do they get back now? And they had a weapon at the bank that could destroy any terminator, so they could now ‘win’ against the machines, yet they gave it all up to go forward in time to kill the creator of the technology??? Hmmm.....
Great reviews, guys!
Thanks.
So sorry you’ve been sick.
Daughter has had sinusitis for a couple months. She’s been through two rounds of different antibiotics and is now on a steroid nasal spray. Something is working, because she feels better.......sounds better, too. Speech isn’t as nasally as it was.
I find it amazing in a field where Huckabee won Iowa, McCain won New Hampshire and Romney won Wyoming, that Romney must win Michigan to remain in the race. Does Huckabee have to win Michigan or McCain have to win? Not according to the media!
You see people are supposed to vote for those born in a state or living in neighboring states. If Hillary does not win Illinois, and she won’t, will they demand she withdraw? After all Obama was not born in Illinois and Hillary was. So Hillary should win Ill...Right?
The media must think that Romney has to win twice to stay in the race while the rest only have to win once. Some don’t have to win or even come in second to stay in the race. If Romney were to eek out a win in Michigan would they say he has to win Florida and South Carolina to stay in the race?
The fact is Romney has raised more money from donors than any other Republican candidate and has more personal money than any other Republican candidate. Money is not a factor in him staying in the race. Yet historically 90 percent of the candidates that have dropped out have done so because they ran out of money.
Rudy has money problems, we know that. His staff took pay cuts and some have been laid off. People do not cut staffs before super Tuesday if they have the money to pay them.
When Al Gore did not carry Tennessee in 2000 did they say he was out? Or did it all depend on Al being able to steal
Florida from Bush?
Oh and Obama is not competing in Michigan because the Democratic party is punishing Michigan for moving its primary. Obama would not want to go against the parties ruling. But isn’t Obama competing in Florida which is also being punished by the Democratic party for moving its primary.
Notice how the media points out the illogic in Obama’s position. The media thinks there is one born every minute. But as my Dad used to say, it actually occurs far more often than that.
Sorry to read about the sinus infections Newsbee, been there and done that. Hopefully what I have now isn’t one....I’ve been watching for signs of infection and so far things don’t point that way, just a bad head cold I believe. I’ve had a miserable sneezy, drippy weekend though.
Thanks for the thread and pings Molly. It’s decided to turn cool and drizzly this week here. The moisture is very much needed but I’m wondering when house fever is going to set in for me as I’ve been housebound since Friday night.
always, I've had some of the thoughts you've expressed...PLUS, I'm wondering about those "independents" voting for McCain...I'm beginning to feel like a conservative turning into a dodo bird....
prairie, if I were you, I'd have had cabin fever yesterday!
Wellll, I guess I wasn’t paying too much attention, cause I kept getting lost. It seemed chopped up and disjointed, at least to me and even Roomey thinks it was disjointed, but it may straighten out as the story goes on.
