January 11, 2008)--Authorities in North Carolina said late Friday morning pregnant Marine Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach is dead.
They said shes buried in a shallow grave, for which investigators are now searching.
They identified the suspect in the case as a Marine officer whom she accused of sexually assaulting her.
Police earlier were planning to interview a man who lived with her and said he would answer questions that "will shed a lot of light on the case."
Authorities said again Friday Marine Sgt. Daniel Durham isn't a suspect, but police believe he's the last person to speak with the Marine.
She disappeared Dec. 14 ahead of her expected testimony in a military investigation into her claim a senior officer had sexually assaulted her.
Court documents show the investigation went sour amid inconsistencies in the woman's story and allegations that she's bipolar and a compulsive liar.
Search warrants show she was facing a possible discharge from the service.
Lauterbach was eight months pregnant when she disappeared.
Her mother said she was in Ohio? Huh??
Wow! How does that fit in the timeline?
But wasn’t the rape claim in April? They’re saying conception date May 14. This thing is just bizarre.
She’s just STUPID, that mother!!!!
What a twisted Web we Weave / When we Practice to Deceive
It’s not making sense.
But that would make the baby due the first week or so of February...all we’ve heard is it was due January 20 something.
Right now there’s not much that IS fitting the timeline.
RDU police were doing routine checks in the back parking lot of the hotel around 2:30 p.m. when they spotted the black Dodge extended cab pickup. Police called Morrisville PD and contacted investigators in the Raleigh area who were able to confirm the vehicle did belong to the wanted Marine.
FBI officials already searched the hotel for Laurean but didnt find him. Officials dont know how long the truck has been at the hotel.
A front desk clerk NBC17 spoke with said she believes the truck had been there for “about 3 weeks”. She adds that she parks in that back lot everyday.

If she was raped April 15th, her due date would be January 20th. Which is on target.
And Dr’s change due dates as they examine and calculate the babie’s size. So her due date matches the rape charge.
Maybe the test was wrong.
And we THOUGHT we were confused before this??
Geesh..what a mess.
Sounds like her mother was trying to help her by lying to keep her from getting in trouble. It is beginning to sound like Laurean, his wife, Maria, and her parents know a lot more about a massive plan than has been released. And Laurean himself seems to be an expert at planting clues, probably with help, around the country.
How could that truck have been there for 3 weeks? I thought people saw it at the house. Where was Laurean during that time? I thought he fled on 1/11.
My head is spinning.
No. There were reports that it was really due Feb 8th.
Which puts in right about the time the test came back negative. Like that day.
Ok
so the rape and pregnancy were two seperate events.
Weirder and weirder.
Yep,
I’m pretty lost too.
As the mother of three I can tell you that due dates are just dates...the baby comes whenever it wants. They tried to tell me my son’s due date was going to change by one month when I was 7.5 months pregnant....and I KNEW when I got pregnant.
When were the reports of seeing the truck in the Raleigh-Durham area? Maybe he came and went from the hotel, always parking in the same spot, or maybe he had someone of Mexican descent driving it around for him periodically.
Obviously Cpl. Laurean thought she was pregnant with his baby, no? Why would he be so distraught as to kill her otherwise?
