Missing (Pregnant) Marine Dead, Authorities Say

January 11, 2008)--Authorities in North Carolina said late Friday morning pregnant Marine Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach is dead.

They said she’s buried in a shallow grave, for which investigators are now searching.

They identified the suspect in the case as a Marine officer whom she accused of sexually assaulting her.

Police earlier were planning to interview a man who lived with her and said he would answer questions that "will shed a lot of light on the case."

Authorities said again Friday Marine Sgt. Daniel Durham isn't a suspect, but police believe he's the last person to speak with the Marine.

She disappeared Dec. 14 ahead of her expected testimony in a military investigation into her claim a senior officer had sexually assaulted her.

Court documents show the investigation went sour amid inconsistencies in the woman's story and allegations that she's bipolar and a compulsive liar.

Search warrants show she was facing a possible discharge from the service.

Lauterbach was eight months pregnant when she disappeared.

They are giving timeline as to what happened. The biggest news is that post “rape” her pregnancy test is negative.

Negative as in not pregnant.

But if she was due this month, wouldn’t she had to have conceived in April or May?? (like maybe the test was wrong)

Her conception day was decided to be May 14th. So pregnancy test would have been too early. (That’s me saying this...about too early)

No problem, but DANG - I step away for two hours and all heck breaks loose! I was within a mile of that hotel an hour ago as I drove past the airport on my way home!

I mean,
the test may have said negative, but clearly she was pregnant and clearly she was due in a time frame that would tie tightly into the rape timing.

In October they decided to wait until baby was born to do DNA test. Until then, there was a military order of protection.

I don’t think this guy is a very sophisticated criminal. For goodness sake, he burned and buried Maria’s body in his own back yard. It would have been a lot smarter to transport her body elsewhere, dig a grave, etc. And then he actually tells them the body is buried in the back yard. He must have thought they’d buy his story of suicide and wanted to appear upfront. Sheesh.

The main reason he hasn’t been nabbed is this has been a very sloppy investigation. Now that the FBI is involved, it just got a lot neater. But, they are coming from behind at this point.

Are we looking at a possible second encounter? I’m trying to listen to the presser & the dog has decided to start yipping his head off.

From WRAL:

Motel clerk Sherrie Joyner said the truck had been in the parking lot for at least three weeks. She said she doesn't remember seeing Laurean at the motel.

She left a note she was tired of MC life for her roommate. She took money out of her account...$700.

What? Her pregnancy test showed up negative on May 11?

She claimed a rape in April. The uncle claimed Laurean was the father. Huh?

Maybe,
but does it matter?

The girl is murdered.
Her baby never had a chance....

I get a little cranky when its a rant of “OH! LOOK! Bad bad girl! She deserved it!” in the media.

From WITN:

CNN is reporting that the tip about the truck near Raleigh actually originated in Onslow County.

She didn’t show up for work on Monday. Roommate shows up with note. They list her as UA and start that process. Her mother reports her in OHIO (dumbass) and Ohio contacts NC!

Maybe he's hiding in the attic.
