Missing (Pregnant) Marine Dead, Authorities Say
KWTX ^ | 1/11/2008 | n/a

January 11, 2008)--Authorities in North Carolina said late Friday morning pregnant Marine Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach is dead.

They said she’s buried in a shallow grave, for which investigators are now searching.

They identified the suspect in the case as a Marine officer whom she accused of sexually assaulting her.

Police earlier were planning to interview a man who lived with her and said he would answer questions that "will shed a lot of light on the case."

Authorities said again Friday Marine Sgt. Daniel Durham isn't a suspect, but police believe he's the last person to speak with the Marine.

She disappeared Dec. 14 ahead of her expected testimony in a military investigation into her claim a senior officer had sexually assaulted her.

Court documents show the investigation went sour amid inconsistencies in the woman's story and allegations that she's bipolar and a compulsive liar.

Search warrants show she was facing a possible discharge from the service.

Lauterbach was eight months pregnant when she disappeared.

I don’t believe for a minute that she ‘tried to talk him out of it.’ I think she probably helped him plan and construct the note. He’s probably sporting a beard and mustache by now. Interesting that the truck hasn’t been found.

WITN ( http://www.witntv.com/home/headlines/13800702.html )says:

Marine officials at Camp Lejeune have announced a 4 p.m. press conference on the Jacksonville base regarding the case of Corporal Cesar Laurean and the death of Lance Corporal Maria Lauterbach. Lauterbach was eight-and-a-half months pregnant when she went missing in mid-December. Her remains and those of her unborn child were found Friday.

You can watch this afternoon's press conference LIVE on WITN-TV and witntv.com.

Questions:
1. When did Laurean confess to his wife that he had been charged with rape?
2. When did the Laureans learn about Lauterbach’s pregnancy?
3. When did Laurean & Lauterbach resume a *cordial* relationship?
4. Did Laurean volunteer to adopt Lauterbach’s child?
5. Was that the adoption that Lauterbach’s mother was advocating?
6. Was there some sort of agreement that such an adoption was NOT to be made public to the Marine authorities and was that the reason for the MPO expiring?
7. Was cpl. Laurean the only one who claimed his wife was pregnant, or did Christina go along with that scheme?
8. Is it possible that Lauterbach was invited to the Laurean’s to try to find a solution to the crises and one of the three parties went ballistic?
9. Was this pre-meditated murder or a crime of passion(s)?

Who really knows? I was just reading a news article that it was a greyhound bus driver that reported him in Shrevesport getting on the bus. Also, he allegedly bought the ticket under an assumed name. The ticket seller reported that they were sure that it was him.

***Has he actually been seen? Verifiably, I mean?***

After the murder on Dec 15th....who last saw cpl.Laurean alive (besides the missus), when and where?

If my husband had killed his mistress in a fit of rage...think I would have taken my toddler & run like hell to my family after calling the cops...I would not have cleaned up after the b*st*rd.

OTOH - If I had killed the mistress in a fit of rage - I would have killed the witness and blamed him...or called it self-defense.

Is LE searching for another dead Marine?

Pretty sure it’s all falling under “believed to have been spotted”. A lot of people fit into his general description & some people just want their 15 minutes. You never know how accurate the reports are.

That’s kinda bad. It’s near the airport. Surely he could not have flown anywhere, right? They released his information pretty fast......

There is always the possibility that he is staging his whereabouts as going one way, so he can disappear in a different direction. Especially since he’s being sooo blatant.

Park at a hotel that has an airport shuttle. Go to airport and get bus? Or plane?
