January 11, 2008)--Authorities in North Carolina said late Friday morning pregnant Marine Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach is dead.
They said shes buried in a shallow grave, for which investigators are now searching.
They identified the suspect in the case as a Marine officer whom she accused of sexually assaulting her.
Police earlier were planning to interview a man who lived with her and said he would answer questions that "will shed a lot of light on the case."
Authorities said again Friday Marine Sgt. Daniel Durham isn't a suspect, but police believe he's the last person to speak with the Marine.
She disappeared Dec. 14 ahead of her expected testimony in a military investigation into her claim a senior officer had sexually assaulted her.
Court documents show the investigation went sour amid inconsistencies in the woman's story and allegations that she's bipolar and a compulsive liar.
Search warrants show she was facing a possible discharge from the service.
Lauterbach was eight months pregnant when she disappeared.

From jdnews.com (I hope all these neighbors have protection)
A neighbor, Wanda Alander, said she visited the Laureans in their home before Christmas and noticed that the living room had been recently painted.
"She told me that they planned to paint the garage next," Alander said.
County investigators say Christina Laurean told them she woke up after her husband had fled. However, Christina Laurean's parents, Bruce and Debby Shifflet, told CBS's "The Early Show" on Monday that their daughter had confronted her husband Friday morning and tried to get him to turn himself in.
"I can't comment on the involvement of the wife," Hudson told CNN's Nancy Grace on Monday.

I think the wife has some keys to finding him. She says he left at 4am last Friday, but the neighbor says he was still there at 6:30 am when they took the dog outside. I'm assuming it was the truck that the neighbor noticed. She's got a huge hole in her story with just this one discrepancy if the neighbor is right
Now why give yourself less of a window of opportunity? Maybe he was there, maybe he wasn't. I'll bet the truck was there, though. So where's the truck now? Is it stored, in a chop shop, at an airport? I doubt he's driving it around. I dont know if she had anything to do with the murder or coverup. But if that truck was there later than she originally said, she probably has some clues as to what happened to it. Heres one of the electronic billboards thats already up.
Nationwide search: Motorists in Columbus, Ohio, on Monday drive near an electronic billboard with the picture of Cpl. Cesar Armando Laurean

Since your timeline, there have been contradictions in those MPO dates (orders of protection).
Trying to find an article that states there was no renewal in September ‘07 or that the order was withdrawn.
Too much CYA in the matter!

A lot of this is sorting out the CYA from the facts.

Very interesting that the wife tells the investigators she woke up after he was gone, but the parents say she confronted him. Another big gaping hole in her story. Here's a little more info from WRAL,
Reward Offered for Suspect in Pregnant Marine's Death
snip...."Police said it was unlikely the card
[Maria's ATM card] was used at the bus station
[Durham]because the card reader there has been out of operation for several days"....
snip..."Laurean's wife, Christina, confronted her husband before he fled and urged him to tell his story to police, Laurean's father-in-law, Bruce Shifflet, told CBS News on Monday.
"Christina definitely got on him to turn himself in," Shifflet said in an interview on the CBS Early Show. "(She) told him he needed to take responsibility for these actions and not run, so that this wouldn't become just chaos for the family."
Christina Laurean, a former Marine, has been devastated by the allegations against her husband and his subsequent disappearance, her mother said. Debbie Shifflet added that her daughter is concerned about the impact the episode will have on the Laurean's' 18-month-old daughter.
Bruce Shifflet said the family is finding it harder to believe Cesar Laurean's version of events as time goes on.
"I kind of almost wanted to believe that myself, too, because, having met with Cesar, his character doesn't (indicate) that at all. He's a very personable, likable guy who our family enjoyed being around," he said.
He urged his son-in-law to surrender for his family's sake.
"I thought he was a man of character, but it's obvious he's just a coward, taking off on his family and leaving this as a tragedy for both families," he said. "It's just a horrible, vulgar act.""....
snip...."Neighbor Wanda Alander said she noticed paint cans stacked on the porch of the Laurean home before Christmas.
"When I went over there, the living room was already painted. (Christina Laurean) mentioned that they were going to do some more stuff, like paint the bedrooms and the garage," Alander said.
Alander also said she saw the couple burning something behind the house around the same time, while her husband claimed he saw Cesar Laurean driving Lauterbach's car."...

Don’t see how MPO can protect her if she leaves the base, but she was staying with another Marine ( Sgt. Daniel Durham) closer to the base, but he apparently was sent to California for training - was this Laurean’s window of opportunity to grab her?

Could be....
or the wife could have called and invited her over to ‘chat’. And things went south.
The amount of apparent pre-planning (telling folks his wife was pregnant) and covering up by both hubby and wife is very ugly.
Like yeah, I paint my house during the busiest time of year (I’m lucky if I get my toenails done!!!)

No need to apologize....just saying :)
So NOT respected. In fact, if you look at the photo they released of him provided by the Marine Corps...they’ve photo shopped the Marine Corps Eagle, Globe and Anchor, the MC seal, out from behind his head!

I wonder if there are receipts for the purchase of the paint, and videos of the purchase(s) The wife let the husband get away way before that 4:00 am finding of the note.....and she had to have seen the blood on the walls if she told the neighbor that they were going to “do some more stuff.” I hope the LE is on to her. Laurean probably had a whole day to get away.

I’m still trying to figure out why the wife says 4 am & the neighbor says 6:30. How does she benefit by making the window of time smaller?

I forgot about the neighbor saying that they saw him at 6:30. The wife is still in this up to her neck. He’s 21......I wonder if the wife is older? Has anyone seen or found and pics of her?

Not that I know of. From what I understand that myspace page wasn’t her. I’m surprised more about her hasn’t popped up on the internet.

- County investigators said the wife told them he was gone when she woke up. This is probably where the 4 am thing comes from.
- Her parents spilled the beans on CBS news that she had tried to talk him out of leaving.
- The neighbor said he wasn’t gone at 6:30 am. He probably noticed his truck.
The only thing I can come up with is she got caught with a lousy cover story. The authorities were supposed to believe she didn’t know anything until she woke up and found his letter. By the parents saying she tried to talk him out of it, and then the neighbor saying he was there at 6:30 - those 2 pieces fit together.

Hi Sue and everybody,
No more news on this creep today, huh?
I think they will catch him if they raise the reward to 100k. Especially if he’s heading to Mexico. Some kabillionaire needs to give thoughtful consideration to anonymously coming forward and posting more incentive. That’s what I’m hoping for.
