Missing (Pregnant) Marine Dead, Authorities Say

January 11, 2008)--Authorities in North Carolina said late Friday morning pregnant Marine Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach is dead.

They said she’s buried in a shallow grave, for which investigators are now searching.

They identified the suspect in the case as a Marine officer whom she accused of sexually assaulting her.

Police earlier were planning to interview a man who lived with her and said he would answer questions that "will shed a lot of light on the case."

Authorities said again Friday Marine Sgt. Daniel Durham isn't a suspect, but police believe he's the last person to speak with the Marine.

She disappeared Dec. 14 ahead of her expected testimony in a military investigation into her claim a senior officer had sexually assaulted her.

Court documents show the investigation went sour amid inconsistencies in the woman's story and allegations that she's bipolar and a compulsive liar.

Search warrants show she was facing a possible discharge from the service.

Lauterbach was eight months pregnant when she disappeared.

LOL, freema! You're on a roll.

Who, BTW, in the sam hill says, I’m expecting a fetus. Or, my goodness, she’s expecting a fetus. Look, John, we’re going to have a fetus! Dick and Jane had a fetus yesterday. Oh, Girlene, lets go visit Bobbi Sue and Jim Bob, I want to see their new fetus.

I couldn't stop laughing at that, freema. It's idiotic. Some folks refer to it as "a product of contraception". Now try inserting that phrase in your paragraph.

Found the video doing a cnn search for Harris Whitbeck....the Mexico CNN man on the ground there. Tried to capture that birth certificate but only got parts of it. And the store front in daytime, you can make out now what the name is....I don't see any street signs or addresses anywhere. Have fun. not a bad looking ‘hood...for all we know, Cesar could be hiding out upstairs...or in a walk in cooler modified for safe-house use.

Could that be a street address sign seen at the top, left of center, of this image, or just the bottom of a store sign?

Might be, but then again it looks as if it is too far from the street ahead to be a sign.

Been watching all video's on CNN that have anything to do with this. In the fly over on the 11th of the area looking for the body and Laurean, there is one of the pool. I thought it looked like the liner was loose and it is. could he possibly have stuck her there until he buried her? That pool was not listed on the GIS listing for taxes. Photobucket

Graffiti or other information on the narrow white wall above the baby carriage - wish we could see the unedited video.

Never been to Mexico but in Germany there are many beer/wine/soft drink stores that look just like this where anyone can buy a case (or less) of anything drinkable.

Just noticed the window in that garage is open too....airing the stinch out. It had definately been cold during this time so why leave a window up.

good observation...there is a back door to the garage I recall, where the other shoe was found...that would have been the route to the pool and thence to the middle of the yard.
