January 11, 2008)--Authorities in North Carolina said late Friday morning pregnant Marine Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach is dead.
They said shes buried in a shallow grave, for which investigators are now searching.
They identified the suspect in the case as a Marine officer whom she accused of sexually assaulting her.
Police earlier were planning to interview a man who lived with her and said he would answer questions that "will shed a lot of light on the case."
Authorities said again Friday Marine Sgt. Daniel Durham isn't a suspect, but police believe he's the last person to speak with the Marine.
She disappeared Dec. 14 ahead of her expected testimony in a military investigation into her claim a senior officer had sexually assaulted her.
Court documents show the investigation went sour amid inconsistencies in the woman's story and allegations that she's bipolar and a compulsive liar.
Search warrants show she was facing a possible discharge from the service.
Lauterbach was eight months pregnant when she disappeared.
I wonder if she was ID’d as a just a blonde female or if she was wearing her uniform with her name on the pocket.
I agree! I’m just saying, if someone saw blood in the garage, the “dead deer” excuse would be plausable. Not likely though.
Have heard several reports and one of them was a news conference with the sheriff - the employee at the bus station remembered selling her the ticket.
I watched Greta again at 1am (after phone stopped ringing and house quiet).... Greta was at Bus Station and said the ticket was purchased on the 14th for a scheduled run on the 15th. Which Maria never took.
I missed the part second time about what time CL got home, but Greta talked with Fermon about that and she repeated CL got home around 7’ish, what were Fermon’s thoughts. Fermon is leaning toward they were leaving together, Laurean coaxed her into garage etc.
I would love to know A) who was at the bonfires and B) if they had carpeting in their living room.
She couldn’t wear her cammies out in town. Against the rules.
OK,
based on her conversations with her mother and all the legal hoopla going on, him being so angry about it, her not wanting to be around him.... I don’t see her going anywhere with him, much less El Paso.
HOWEVER< sometimes there can be things hidden that no one knows about.
Really? Hmmm, then that means street clothes...which could be any blonde in them.
The deer excuse is a good one actually. It could work for a hunter.........
**”Would you keep the baby? was said a lot those days.**
Has anything been confirmed that Maria was truly planning to keep the baby? i.e. had she prepared a nursery area in Durham’s home? Purchased any clothing, diapers etc.,?
Was there any possibility she had found an adoptive couple in Texas to pay her expenses and keep the baby following childbirth?
She may have told Laurean some or all of her plans - and they didn’t include exonerating him from rape charges or allowing him to know whether the child was his.
The body, going back to the 11th as quoted in this article:
“Megan Melton, who lives about 100 yards from the area, said dozens of vultures had descended on the area in the past few weeks.” source: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080111/ap_on_re_us/missing_marine;_ylt=AuyohRON9ZaRi_Q.wOEddEWs0NUE
Once again, I notice the pool liner. In the aerial photo it looks as if looking down on it the right side is loose or ripped from frame. As Greta walked past it last night you could see if hanging loose from the side. Could he ? have put her behind/under it until he dug the pit?
Excellent point! And that would make more sense too....if the adoptive couple invited her to come down and meet them.
I don’t see an 8 month pregnant woman being willing to sit on a bus for umpteen hours (talk about misery) unless there was a very very very good reason.
I thought it looked like dried blood also or blood stain.
Honestly, that doesn’t look like what an 18 month old would drop in a carseat.
Re: the blow up of the car seat.
That’s just disgusting.
Your adoption theory really works.
It would explain the ticket to El Paso.
I’ve had enough blood issues (animals etc) to guess that it looks like blood that someone has tried to wipe and then sponge out of the carseat. Blood in fabric is a bugger to get out....
What is that red shiney thing next to the car seat? It seems to be made of plastic.....
You would expect, however, that if an adoptive couple existed they would have come forward by now. Are there any Catholic maternity half-way hospitals in El Paso? Perhaps that was an option.
With respect to Christina - she is either
1. going to have an epiphany any day now. When she realizes how much trouble her husband has caused her.
or
2. if she was the architect - she will just keep spinning until he is found dead by suicide. Then there will be another *letter* exonerating her.
Re. where the Laurean’s child was, debm, it does make sense that the child could have been with the mom if it was a family event. I’m hoping LE has not released a lot of info that they have checked into, but after seeing the shoe pictures last night, I’m starting to have my doubts about their thoroughness.
