January 11, 2008)--Authorities in North Carolina said late Friday morning pregnant Marine Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach is dead.
They said she’s buried in a shallow grave, for which investigators are now searching.
They identified the suspect in the case as a Marine officer whom she accused of sexually assaulting her.
Police earlier were planning to interview a man who lived with her and said he would answer questions that "will shed a lot of light on the case."
Authorities said again Friday Marine Sgt. Daniel Durham isn't a suspect, but police believe he's the last person to speak with the Marine.
She disappeared Dec. 14 ahead of her expected testimony in a military investigation into her claim a senior officer had sexually assaulted her.
Court documents show the investigation went sour amid inconsistencies in the woman's story and allegations that she's bipolar and a compulsive liar.
Search warrants show she was facing a possible discharge from the service.
Lauterbach was eight months pregnant when she disappeared.
Maria’s ATM pic is the 14th and CL’s ATM video is the 24th of December.
To me. it’s showing. You can see the very edge of it under the shadow of his shirt IMO.
Oh, for Pete’s sake, you’re right. I thought that was pretty freaky.
I think it’s the arm of the person pictured. He probably had his arm at an angle to try to cover the camera as fast as possible. I think the lens is a little distorted around the edges to catch even further.....and that’s why he is revealed more than he probably thought he would be.
What’s strange here is if that is the Navy Fed off Western Ave it is always busy. How did he cover up the lens with no one seeing him?????
There is a remote ATM off Western further down the street.
I’ve looked at the video over and over and I can’t tell which ATM it is.
I’m gonna see if I can figure out how to make that video in slow motion.
That’s okay....the dates are getting confusing because some sources say one thing and other sources say something else. :)
You know what’s weird? It’s the way he is holding his hand. It seems palm up with the cloth on top. It would seem like someone would hold it palm out, no?

The face of the search warrant has a box checked. Next to the box it states that no items were seized.....
Could they be holding back or is it just me???
Too bad it’s not on youtube where we could at least pause/play it to slow it down a little.
When my daughter gets home from work, maybe I can have her put it on youtube. Or would that be copy infringement?
I think they mean that they didn’t seize personal property. That is the search warrant for the phone records, right? No need to seize the phones then.....they’ll just get phone records. If I am understanding that correctly.

They are saying the ATM where CL allegedly took out money on Christmas Eve is the Navy Federal CU on Western Blvd, correct????
I meant to correct my post to state the cell phone records, not the phones themselves.
Looking back over the search warrant, I couple things I’ve seen before struck me hard.
According to this search warrant
1. her due date was JAN 8.
2. she was apparently bedridden, at doctor’s orders, I’m sure. (This indicates pregnancy complications such as high BP whereby stress and movement can cause fetal and/or maternal demise.)
3. That would mean she had been placed on medical (maternity) leave.
And that when she didn’t show up for work on the 19th........
That makes no sense.

There were two times when Lauterbach did report being the victim of an attack on base between when she reported the sexual assaults and when she disappeared, said Paul Ciccarelli, special agent in charge aboard the base for Naval Criminal Investigative Service.
The first was when her car was keyed in the parking lot of a barracks in May, he said. The second time, she said a man hit her in the face but specifically said the man was not Laurean.
Yes, I believe an earlier poster said that in addition to the more-heavily used one there is another remote one further down Western.
