A new decade, a new countdown. AFI reveals the (NEW) 100 greatest movies of all time.
American Film Institute ^ | December 2007 | AFI

Posted on 01/11/2008 8:10:32 AM PST by Clint N. Suhks

You've come to the right place to find official information and downloads for AFI's 100 Years . . .100 Movies series. Ten years after the very first list in the series -- the 100 greatest American films of all time -- AFI's experts have taken another look and movie lovers have been waiting for the result. Now, the new top 100 movies list has been revealed. The top 10 films are:

1 CITIZEN KANE

2 THE GODFATHER

3 CASABLANCA

4 RAGING BULL

5 SINGIN' IN THE RAIN

6 GONE WITH THE WIND

7 LAWRENCE OF ARABIA

8 SCHINDLER'S LIST

9 VERTIGO

10 THE WIZARD OF OZ

Curious about the rest of the list? Take a colorful interactive tour of all 100 movies on the list, with key art and credits for each. Then, download the official enhanced list -- where you can see which films have moved up or down -- or dropped off altogether -- compared to the 1997 list. And, the download is designed to be used as a checklist for your own "100 Movies" viewing. Enjoy!

Good link...

What the.....?!

Why isn’t “Big Trouble in Little China” on the list?

Raging Bull is overrated in general.

The Searchers and City Lights jumped 84 and 65 spots, respectively. Unforgiven made a huge jump, too.
This list really seems out of line

So should “The Defiant Ones”.

It could take “Sophie’s Choice” slot. What a snoozefest!

A great movie from the 50’s is “The Bad Seed.”

Horrifying.

I don't get those either. The Searchers arguably The Dukes best movie to some, The Shootist is my favorite, But it doesn't belong in the top 12.

The biggest loser is The African Queen having lost 48 points...that's just not right.

Those huge gains and losses are strange.
The Shootist is one of my favorites as well

I have only seen 33 of those movies. Seems like a bunch of stuff is missing. Patton and Once Upon a Time in the West among others.

This list is sexist—not enough chick flicks. ;-)

Never saw it, or if I did, don’t remember.

Most of the movies I admire are from the 40’s, 50’s, and sixties.

I’m kinda surprised also that Cleopatra isn’t on there. I think measured in inflation adjusted dollars, it is still the most expensive movie ever made. Liz was as stunning as the sets, which were breathtaking.

And no list is correct without Midnight Cowboy.

And a bunch of anti-Polonist nonsense to boot.

I watch a lot of TMC and AMC. Great stuff. And love the hosts and their information on the films.

Midnight Cowboy gave me the creeps and found it depressing.

What are you talking about?

Silence of the Lambs and Goodfellas are great chick flicks!
