Dr. Kasson discusses the art of computer modeling as it relates to proteins and drug interaction.
Please consider joining the Free Republic folding team #36120 to use your idle computer time helping to advance medical research.
Remember the research that you contribute today may result in the cure that extends your life tomorrow!
Please consider donating to keep Free Republic running strong!
After donating, follow this thread and install the F@H kernal, or just check your systems to ensure that they are all folding for you and team 36120!
BTW, the update for ATI graphics cards should be out within a month.
What better time to join the Free Republic Folding@home effort than a FReepathon during the Presidential election season!

How does it work?: You download a safe, tested program (see link below) that is certified by Stanford University. It gets work from Stanford, runs calculations using your spare computer power, and sends the results back to the University.
Is it safe? Yes! Folding@Home rarely effects computer performance in any way and won't compromise your privacy in any way. It only uses the computing power you aren't using so it doesn't slow down other programs.
How do I get started folding for Team FreeRepublic?:
1.) Download the folding program from Stanford University's folding download page (Folding@home Client Download). Type in your desired user-name.
2.) Type in 36120 for the team number. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT - if you get the number wrong, you won't be folding for team FreeRepublic!
3.) The third question asks, "Launch automatically at machine startup, installing this as a service?" - We recommend you answer YES. Otherwise you will have to manually start the program after every reboot.
How can my computer help? Even if they were given exclusive access to all of the world's supercomputers, Stanford still wouldn't have as much processing power as they get from the supercluster of people's desktop systems Folding@home relies on. Modern supercomputers are essentially a cluster of hundreds of processors linked by fast networking. But Stanford needed the power of hundreds of thousands of processors, not just hundreds.
There's no reason to not get involved! It's free, easy, and you can know you're helping every minute without lifting a finger.

I stopped running it because it won’t let the screen saver activate, tho’ it used to.

I fold for my parents, and all those who suffer. We can win!
Think we can goad DU into producing more? Their rank is down at 192, with us at 54. Rub their noses in their failure to help their fellow man as opposed to the uncaring conservatives who are contributing about three times as much every day, seven times as much total.
It’ll only mean more towards curing disease if they take on the challenge.
Fold one for the Gipper bump.
Probably the best way to do Blu-Ray right now is with a Sony PlayStation 3.
$399 buys a 40GB PlayStation 3 with a built in Blu-Ray player. (This model uses the new low power consumption chip set.) The PS3 is Internet connected via Ethernet or wireless, can stream movies and music from your PC, plays games at up to 1080P, upscales and upconverts your existing DVDs nicely and its Internet network is free. (Unlike X-Box Live...)
The PlayStation 3's Operating System, along with its Blu-Ray player’s firmware, are easily updated from the Internet so the player is, and will remain, up to date with the current Blu-Ray Specification.
Also included as an option in the PlayStation 3 Operating System is Stanford’s “Folding at Home” application for performing distributed computing protein folding science to find cures for misfolded protein deseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson’s, etc. when your PS3 isn’t being used to play movies or games. (Good for around 900+ F@H points per day...)

I posted my first WU exactly 20 months ago, and just broke the 100,000 mark TODAY!
WOO HOO!!
Next target is 500WU!

Should be getting WU sent back for this and two new systems within a few days. Got to get my numbers back up!
