The Hobbit Hole XXXV - ...is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

Posted on 01/03/2008 6:35:58 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Of course, properly done in the South, that requires 14 lbs. of sugar per gallon.

Only down east. We never put that much in ours...maybe 1/4 cup per gallon.

Four hours isn't so bad. You'll be home before you know it!

We just had a bit of a thrill. We'd gotten a flyer in the mail offering a $100 gift card just for test driving a Lexus. So we went, and I drove the Hybrid SUV. It was a FINE ride, I must say; ought to be, for $50K!

We're certainly not in the market for a new car, but it didn't cost US anything to test drive it, except an hour of our time, so why not? We'll use the money to take Joseph out for dinner when he graduates. By that time Clare will be home for the summer, so she can join us, too!

Those are so neat! I got my Gardener's Supply catalog yesterday, and those plants were on the front of it! Seems like it would be a fun way to grow maters without worrying about cutworms, or furry critters, chewing on them.

Let us know how they do this summer!

If it’s a tall glass, 20 oz or more, I’ll use 2 packets. Otherwise, for a regular mug of coffee or a middling sized glass, I’ll just use one. I don’t like drinks too sicky sweet.

I’m trying to think if it was Gardener’s Supply. Somewhere that I saw them said you could also use them for cucumbers.

My Mama used a full cup of sugar for a half-gallon of tea; twice what I used! The kids loved it, of course, when she’d come to visit. They had to get used to the not so sweet stuff whenever she’d go home, but they still always begged me to make “Mimi Tea”.

Yep, you can use them for cukes, and even eggplants! It does look like a great way to grow veggies!

That is, of course, if someone actually wanted to grow eggplant...

$100 free is very cool, but...*shudder*

I am soooo glad I’m done with the test driving business. Driving a car I’m not familiar with in front of a total stranger ain’t my idea of fun!

We’re going to have to start test driving sooner or later. Hopefully we find a solution as good as your new blue car.

Does it have a name yet?

Heh...

I think eggplant is one of those foods that can be wonderful or absolutely repulsive, depending on how it’s cooked. Not much middle ground.

Heh...still cracks me up a bit that I spent a long time hardly even sleeping, 'cause I was spending so much time and effort researching models and brands...and in the end, I threw it all to the wind and more or less impulse bought, just 'cause it was pretty and familiar-enough and drove nice. I could certainly have done worse, though! No regrets at all so far, which for a second-guesser like me ain't bad. I do need to figure out the bike rack one of these days, but I'll wait until I'm not *quite* as nervous about scratching the paint.

I dunno! I do think it's a nicely hobbity color, though...wasn't bright blue listed as one of the colors they like? ;-)

I like eggplant...

I like eggplant too, and it's very good for you, especially the purple skin! It doesn't microwave very well though, so I'll substitute another vegetable for it, if I'm going to have enough for leftover lunches for OB. Same thing with snow peas, they are positively gross when cooked, then microwaved!

I love snow peas...but yeah, they’re pretty nasty done wrong! I like ‘em almost raw, if they’re cooked at all.
