The Hobbit Hole XXXV - ...is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

Posted on 01/03/2008 6:35:58 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

The mega-HyVee near where I work had a whole section of “natural foods” stuff and a bunch of “natural beauty” including some vey expensive shampoo that has no fragrances added. So, ready to give it a try.

Yeah, poor dog wasn’t born with an ‘off’ switch when it comes to food.

Well, at least she isn't confused as to what is, or is not, food:

Cat’s going after one of those slow lethargic birds.

Hey, you have running and biking and swimming. They should do a triathlon as a team.

Ours are like that. Once one of them started puking and we were slightly worried, until we noticed they had gotten into the cat food and eaten about 5 days worth (by volume). After that we booted them outside and had not sympathy. Stupid dog.

I accidentally brought the cat with me to work this morning, attached to my overcoat.

Either that or she’s at home and completely bald...

Something about the way this new coffee mug is shaped it is worse about leaving a little cold bit left undrunk at the bottom. I like a big coffee mug but they need to be engineered to not cool off too fast. Once they hit drinkable temp they have to hold that long enough for leisurely sipping and not barely long enough for chugging. Of course too much insulating ability and the liquid takes to long to cool to drinkable... I wonder if I could build something that would preform a thermo dynamic test on a mug while still in the store and let me determine of the volume to insulation radio is in the optimal range...

You could get one of those little ceramic cup warmer hot plate thingies...

Bah!

Well I would call that too easy but it is a nifty gadget... and they make ones that are powered from a computer’s USB port. So I guess the coolness of making caffeine a computer peripheral trumps it being the easy solution.

I have the perfect coffee tumbler. It’s stainless steel, and with the lid on, it’ll keep stuff warm until afternoon should I somehow not drink it, *but* with the lid off, it cools fairly quickly. So I can make my coffee or tea, let it sit for just a minute or two, clap the lid on, and I’m good to go.

It’s Starbucks, so it was a slight bit pricey, but it works well enough that when one got lost in the move, I almost immediately bought another.

LOL!

I know the feeling...

Unfortunately, instead of going bald, they keep manufacturing more hair.

Hm...I guess the downside to stainless steel is that you can’t stick it in the microwave. I forget not everyone has a hot water dispenser at their office. So there’s that.

Starbucks is great after holidays when you can catch stuff on sale. I never buy their mugs and stuff at full price.

I swear it was like my black raincoat was wearing a gray sweater. She’d obviously been sleeping in the bottom of the closet.

We bought a nice hot water making pot in Japan. Holds 2 liters and have 4 temperature settings and pumps it out at the touch of a button. Very nice at home. At work we have hot water dispensing valves on the side of some of the coffee makers so that is ok.
I have some metal ones but they are mostly so tall I am more likely to spill them. My best one is the one that is TOO good. With the lid on it can sit for 12 hours and still burn the **** out of you when you take a sip. With the lid off it still takes hours and hours to cool to drinkable. If you don’t put it in at drinkable temp then you will never get a burn free drink.
I need one of those cone shaped ones that has a nice wide base and is double walled for use at work.
