The Hobbit Hole XXXV - ...is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

Posted on 01/03/2008 6:35:58 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Yay.

I gotta go to work tonight.

And tomorrow night.

Unless I get cancelled! I might! I did last Saturday!

Although, even if I get cancelled from the hospital, I’ll still try to get a shift from my agency. But it would be a hospice shift, which I enjoy a great deal more!

But at least it’s good pay, huh?

I got my tax refund check today. Granted, I already owed it for that oven, so it was in and out of my bank account in a matter of hours...but at least the payment is now taken care of.

Yep, but try to convince any of those ‘population planners’ of that, and you’ll make their heads explode.

We need to get our stuff together and do our taxes... got Talon’s w2 the other day so I think we’re set. Hopefully we’ll get a little back. We paid off my car this week. Now we’re concentrating on the credit card and more savings. I like having real savings.

Yep!

Tomorrow I may bake bread - woo-hoo!

I’m also thinking of getting some real, established sourdough starter from somewhere like King Arthur Flour. I was hoping the co-op would carry sourdough starter, but they don’t.

I just LOVE King Arthur Flour stuff!! I used some of their Fruit Blend in my oatmeal this morning; SO good!

One of my goals for this year is to (finally) pay off the credit card completely this year and then only use it for month to month purchases and emergencies. If I’m actually good about it (and if the car doesn’t break down again), I should be able to do it by late spring.

It’d be nice to start saving a good amount at that point, in hopes of someday having a down-payment for a house. But that will also depend on if I decide to move to a nicer place. *sigh* The one redeeming quality of my current place is that it’s inexpensive for being big and out of the way (at least during the summer when I’m not paying out the nose for electric heat). To find another place that has a fenced yard and allows dogs *without* paying twice what I’m paying or more...that’s going to be tricky.

Erm...pardon the department of redundancy department error in that first sentence...

I paid off my credit cards in the fall of 05, and then canceled them as my debt started to build up.

I seem to remember that links to items in their catalog don’t work...but what I’m hoping to get is item 8999 - it’s the sourdough starter, plus a nice crock for it. Pretty nifty!

Next pay period, I think.

I’m still organizing our tax stuff. I just need Steve’s w2 and a few 1099s from some Hormel shares we own. (We really like Spam.)

Then we make an appointment to have our taxes done for free. It’s put on by the AARP, for senior citizens, except they don’t care if you are a senior citizen or not.

This year I’m on the ball. Already got the briefcase ready with everything (other than the things that are missing) ready to go. As soon as those items come in, I’ll make the appointment.

When we get our return and when we get that rebate congress approved...well, we should be walkin’ in high cotton!

You know, Rosie, you’ve got a good job and good credit history. You could probably get a no-down-payment mortgage setup. That’s what we have. Yes, you hear a lot of nonsense about them but we’re the sort of person they’re designed for - someone who wants a house and won’t have trouble with the payments, but don’t have $20k in the bank for a downpayment.

It might be harder in your area because finding something with a yard might be more expensive, I don’t know. But I’d recommend going and talking to a nice banker. Do it now while there’s no way you’re ready to move and they can’t pressure you into anything; and then you’ll know your options.

I’m just happy that they raised the couples ceiling on the tax rebate thing. And fixed the AMT. The AMT might have got us this year and we would have missed out on the tax rebate program. The marriage penalty stuff is ridiculous.

Here’s a suggestion...it’s what we are doing...

Put $500-$1000 into saves first...before paying anything on the credit card (other than minimum due). Then, after you have that in savings, start hacking away at the card. Then, if you do have an emergency, you won’t have to put it on the card, you can pay for it out of your savings.

I’m taking a class. Heh!

Yup. Down payment would have been nice.
Got to save up one of those. :P
Even without it though the house is only about 70 bucks more than I paid for rent of the apartment I use to have.

That is what we did. The savings is just about where we want it for emergency so we are going to start throwing a lot more at the card.
We paid the card down earlier this year and then it went back up :P
Time to take it back down. And then drop it’s line of credit again so that it can’t go back up much.

I love that savings account. No kidding. It’s the only time in our marriage that we’ve had anything in savings...

I put it in our credit union account. It’s way across town and I can’t access it easily.

I like to take the statement from our credit union and look at it lovingly and hug it.

You think I’m kidding...I’m not even kidding.
