The Hobbit Hole XXXV - ...is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

Posted on 01/03/2008 6:35:58 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Uh - yeah, it did. I don’t see activity out there at the pump.... yet.

I have some bottled stuff. Things were a bit gritty until I found it...

Well, we’ll give him a little time to figure it out... then I’ll call if I don’t see activity out there.

I guess the thing I gotta wonder about after seeing that chart is that even though the number of births per woman is really high in some of the 3rd world countries, how many of those children actually survived? They may have HAD 7 children, but if only 2 of them lived to adulthood, then they’re just barely keeping up too.

Infant mortality rates aren’t great in a lot of those place sbut they aren’t quite as bas as you might think. America sends a lot of aid, things like vaccines that make a really huge difference. Basically most of those third world countries are growing. They’re better off than, say, China, where they’ve got a huge surplus of men who won’t find wives... thanks to nice enlightened “One child policies” coupled with cultural preferences for boys.

Huh... well I called and talked to him, and we don’t know any more than we did before I called.

*snort*

OK. I imagine it woulda been an interesting conversation to listen in on. ;-)

I guess I’m just gonna get coffee from the deli place at work. But post if you find out anything! It’s not any colder than it’s been...so I doubt it’s a pipe or anything, especially since it happened *after* I’d been running water for awhile.

He’s at least got the door open now.

It feels like progress.

I just couldn’t tell if he already knew it was out or whether I told him. All he kept repeating was “it was OK this morning, now not”.

But now he’ll make it look real nice...

Well, I’m gonna have to leave Cisco out with limited water. Hopefully it’ll warm up enough to melt what’s already in his bowl. :-\

Off to work!

You’re brilliant... you know that, right? :-)

Good call on the Steyn book. I’ve read it, and wow... is it ever a wake-up call.

Mornin’ folkses... [sip]

Yeah - water is kindof a critical need over here too. I removed the ice on the top of the horse water, but it’s still very cold, normally I’d pour a bucket of hot on it to warm it up so they drink ~enough~ on these cold mornings, to not colic on their breakfast.

I’d LOVE for there to be more research on kudzu!! That stuff is everywhere! When Clare and I went to Japan, we got to see it in its native habitat, and it grows over everything that doesn’t move THERE, too!

We were on a bus or train over there, looking out and said to each other, ‘Gee, that looks a lot like Kudzu.... oh yeah KUDZU, duh!’

I took it again and changed “I know my way around the Internet” to “I can design a website” and got Ben.

Yah, I got my Ben my first time through, and gave up on it after that.

I am pretty sure I want to be the guy that was not so dumb as to stay stuck on an island for 20 years or whatever. But maybe that is why I don’t watch the show.
