We hear every four years that "this election is a critical election". However, this year it is really critical. Compared with the democratic field, the republican field has produced by far the most qualified individuals to be President.
America this year can chose between two distinct paths; American Federalism or European Socialism. The only viable candidate in this election that has promised to continued this Reaganesque tradition is Sen. Fred D. Thompson.
Sen Thompson may not have the executive experience as a Gov Romney, Gov Huckabee, or Mayor Guiliani, but Sen. Thompson understands the true nature of the American political system. He also understands that more government is not the solution and that any one who holds the office of the Presidency of the United States must do so with full conviction and confidence as a conservative.
Being a conservative does not mean adopting conservative religious views, or talking like a conservative, and practicing liberal politics, but instead understanding the limits that are placed on the federal government by respecting those individuals rights that are guaranteed by the Constitution and using those rightful powers of the federal government and the Presidency to run the Executive branch, and by appointing judges to the federal bench that would be truthful to the constitution.
Sen. Thompson realizes the dangers of the Islamic threat from abroad and the need to secure our borders from illegal immigration and is not afraid to face it head on.
He understands the free market, and is not afraid to preach the values of hard work and honest investment. Although we are all sinners, Sen. Thompson has the moral credentials to serve as Commander-in-chief of our Armed Forces.
The Choice could not be clearer; A man who understands clarity of the constitution and a man who is willing to do what is needed to protect this country in the face of Islamic extremist.
For President Sen. Fred D. Thompson.
I have high hopes for Fred in Iowa but will not be devastated if he has issues.
Indeed I am getting a bit giddy. I want something else out of Iowa, and it seems that it is on target.
The Huck/Mitt battle may well have had the effect I was hoping for, and then some....
It’s hard to fault Iowa voters for not being on board with Fred Thompson.
Until a few weeks ago, Fred Thompson was not running in Iowa. His supporters here said he was skipping the state entirely, along with New Hampshire.
Sure, you’d love the Iowa voters to pick him anyway, but it’s not fair to blame them for not picking a candidate who has said he doesn’t care about their state.
Now, he’s running in Iowa. But a lot of those voters have already made their choice, and see Fred’s entry into the state to be more opportunistic than representative of a real concern he has for their state. He saw Huckabee take a notch out of Romney, and thought there was a window of opportunity.
New Hampshire’s the same way. Fred ignored them, his supporters claim there are no conservatives living in New Hampshire at all, and Fred even blew off the New Hampshire debate to make his announcement on Jay Leno.
So again, you’d like the NH voters to recognize and vote for Fred Thompson, but it’s not fair to fault them for ignoring a candidate that ignored them first.
Rock: you said it about as well as it could be said and not get banned from the site.
There has been smearing of candidates since the very first contested election. Not everyone loved George Washington, after all. They tried, at first, to be discreet, but in the end were just as nasty as any smear jobs today.
That will certainly be true if YOU and others don't try to stop the Democrats from gaining the White House.
I didn’t say one danged thing about giving up. I said what I said, but I never said I was giving up. Me and my wife will vote for a conservative. But, I will not vote for a liberal, either dimocrat or republican. A liberal is a liberal and does not share the values I share. You can vote for whom you desire. I don’t care what you do.
Right on, big’ol freeper!
I support Fred Thompson, because I think he's the best of the bunch! No, he's not perfect, but then, neither was Reagan. We deal with what we have, and go with the best of those choices. Frankly ANY of them are superior to Obama or Her Heinous.
I take exception with that. I think that a box of horse turds is smarter that a helluva lot of voters.
Frankly, neither Iowa's nor New Hampshire's choices are relevant to the election as a whole. Neither are representative of the country as a whole. They're good media fodder, and that's about it.
As of a week ago, it was reported that up to 60% of Iowans HAD NOT chosen a candidate, and were beginning to take a look at the field more closely. Seems like Fred got in at JUST the right time.
Considering the fact that the winner in NH has NOT gone on to be the eventual nominee in most of the last few elections, I’d say the outcome of their primary is irrelevant. The fact that they got angry because Fred didn’t come kiss the rings of the GOP leaders there, is indicative of the seriousness of their decisions.
You are so right. Being a conservative is more than just saying you are opposed to abortion. Sadly, we have our share of regulars who either don't know or don't care what conservatism really is. Incremental socialism is killing this nation. If we lose the White House now, while we do not control either the House or Senate, the left will put their agenda on overdrive.
Fred Thompson is the true conservative among the top 5, is still very much in the race, and he is NEEDED as our anchor for conservative principles during the next administration. Support him now or we will all pay later.
Thanks, I’ll do just that. ;o)
We in Iowa are not the OJ Jury. We are the most politically informed and active folks in the Nation as a group. We are in touch with the candidates and have touched them personally for generations. The media can lie, their commercials and spin hacks can lie. But, when it comes down to looking them in the eye and getting real answers, Iowans do their job!
Fred has failed muster. And the only place he has any real support is in the very UNREAL virtual fantasy that is FreeRepublic.
Which is why I keep wondering... WHAT yer all gonna do in 2 days when Reality rises up and bites?
RF,
Obviously Iowans are picking their candidates on personality and ability to kiss your butt. Well, that’s just retarded. Sorry.
Fred Thompson on ISSUES is the proven conservative. Iowans don’t hold a candle to Freepers in terms of political knowledge, that is painfully apparent. Iowa gets spun.
Why don’t Iowans... a... pick up a computer and search candidate positions, look closely at their past like we do instead of voting based on a wink and a smile - or - have Iowa Republicans done their homework and are in the process of supporting a new republican platform that incorporates liberal planks.
If Fred does “poorly” in Iowa, I WILL equate Iowa to O.J. Jurors and lose all faith in Iowa as a primary state. You guys need to step it up.
Maybe some Iowans do their job, but you've missed it.
FRed himself needs to convince the voters.
